Default Friend Can't Host Games - 12-10-2006, 06:45 | posts: 467 | Location: Seattle, Washington

My friend has a SB5100 External Cable Modem, and even though it's no router - he can't host games in anything, and can't join my games in a few select games. Also, Bittorent has problems saying he's behind a firewall or router. He just got Windows XP and had it replace his Mac OS. But this happened when he placed Warcraft 3 on his Mac too.

What's going on? How can I find out what he's behind?

Hmm, it would appear the modem has neither PAT or NAT, so there go's that idea.

Do you run any other 3rd party Firewalls? Such as anything by Symantec, or Zone Alarm, Outpost Firewall, Kiero, anything like that.

Because it should just work without a problem, and there's no way you can forward ports with that modem either, so there must be something else stopping it.

ask your friend to find out his local ip adress through the process of Start>Run> ipconfig and if his ip starts with 192.168.XXX.XXX then there is some kind of NAT running and he'll have to foward ports. Also, if his IP isn't static then that might be another problem
