How good are componet cables compared with S Video

Hi, 
 
I just want to be sure that component cables are much much better than S video. 
 
Right now I have everything in S video, and the image on my Wega is great, a friend told me that Component wouldn't make much difference, but I have read on the net and on magazines that the best way to hook up any video component is by using component cables. 
 
Maybe somebody can tell me is it worth to change to component?

I guess it depends on what it is worth to you. Component video is better, but will you be able to visually tell the difference? Maybe on a high end TV with a high end source. If you have a regular TV set like me (non HDTV) then why bother changing?

thats strange i was under the belief that s video is superior to RCA(componet or is it composite???) um never mind this post im not sure if what im thinking of composite or componet.

Here's the scoop ... 
 
BEST: component video (separates R,G,B signals and, I think, brightness as well) 
 
BETTER: S-video (separates luminance and chrominance signals) 
 
WORST: composite (all the video signals on one channel) 
 
Will you notice a difference? Between composite and S-video for sure. Between component and S-video ... depends on your monitor and source quality.

I got a 52" RCA and my DVD Player's piped to my receiver then to the TV all through S-video

my old mans got a 51" HDTV with component going from his dvd to his tv and i'll tell ya this, you can tell the difference the colours are brighter and it's a better all around picture....bastard

Component cables are in my experience, much much better than s-video. Granted, a lot depends on the quality of the wires and the output signal, but components are much more likely to be better.

In my case, plugging my playstation 2 into a 36" Wega with an s-video cable, the clarity and resolution was definitely there, but there was some pretty bad shadowing with any orange colors (i.e. the orange was offset by about 1/4" to the left), and there was some noticeable interference patterns (moving graininess around edges). Upgrading to component wires, the image was, for all intents and purposes, perfect.
