I'm just wondering whether Nvflash and VGAbios work in Windows XP. If they do, how do i use them? I used to use them on my old comp, but I forgot how to. I want to use VGAbios to test out a new bios, and then if i have no problems, i will flash it with nvflash

NVflash is a dos program. It is recommended you you boot up in DOS then do the flash. Please enlighten me as to how VGABios works.

This message was edited by venomrat on 12 Apr 2002 07:02 PM

On my old comp, VGAbios was a way to use a bios without actually flashing. It does something with loading a bios into memory. I just want to make sure it is compatible. And for NVflash, so that means I should make a dos boot disk?

Yes, a boot disk is required.

Warning: never flash if your AGP is running out of spec (e.g. if your system is overclocked).... if VGAbios is run and you get a bunch of pretty colors, that's a good sign that you need to downclock before flashing.
and VgaBIOS also does NOT update the registers on the card itself..so if the bios code you were using with VGABIOS were somehow corrupt, VGAbios might not show that and would work fine with the new BIOS, but when flashing such a BIOS, you would be staring at a black screen and freeze during a reboot. This only would happen if you were using a BIOS that was hacked improperly or had changes made at the wrong place.
