Benchmarks with madonion are always intresting. Figure i would post them So other people can kinda get an idea/compare.
Its quite apparent.... that raising your memory speed on video card barely increaces each 10mhz.
As....increacing your GPU speed..its like 200 points per 10mhz!

Nvidia Nforce
Athlon XP 1700
OC 230/480 Score 7800

MSI KT333 Ultra

230/500 7680
240/500 7844
240/510 7874
240/520 7862
240/530 7990
240/540 8010
240/550 8025

now...with xp 1700 i get 7800 230/480
with xp 1600, it took 240/500 for same score!

Last Benchmark...
I set my Ram command enabled to 1T
RAS from 6T to 5T and the mode from normal to ultra.
240/550 new Score 8264
almost 300 points by changing ram settings...
Clearly...its all about a damn good configuration!

Oh ya...This was all done with the stock cooling that comes with the POWERCOLOR board.... eat it gainward.
*runs and hides from the brand obessive people*
My pc locks up if i raise from 240 to 250mhz GPU though.
and i installed crystal orb last night with artic silver II.
swear it runs hotter

Also, i went into bios and switched AGP voltage from AUTO to the highest setting. which is 1.8V. know if this is good idea? not like it made a difference that i saw anyways. but at this point im just messing around with the card.

This message was edited by Cashman000 on 28 Mar 2002 09:23 AM

sometimes you are just maxed out on the chip in terms of OC, even added cooling cant help, also perhaps it is a power issue you are looking at.

Power Issue... thats intresting... i mean i hear alot of hype about using a big power supply...
but not sure how changing the speed of the gpu would require a larger PS....to keep it from locking up.
Right now running with 300W PS.
have..2 case fans, dragon orb 3 on chip, Turbine slot cooler in first pci slot....2 cd-roms...hardrive, and floppy.
and..now the crystal orb pluged into PS too. Sometimes i connect second HD.
but i dont have to much power consumption going on for a 300W

maybe ill throw in a 400 tommrow just for kicks...

Just got home from work to find my video card overheating
it seems....my cooling fan/heatsink that came with the card stock.
runs this thing cooler then the crystal orb....
i don't think the crystal orb covers enough surface area..
and installed det 28.32 . .. scored about 50 points lower then 23.11 whoohoo...
er wait... Doh.

Maybe i should put my case sides back on. probably run cooler then lol.
The crystal orb is not doing a good job is because you have to lap the bottom of it and get all of that tin coated crap off. I have the crystal orb, blue orb, orange orb ,and I lap every single one of them. But if you really wanna cool your card than read this thread HERE. This is the best way you cool a card with out spending at least $100 on water cooling.
While lapping the Crystal Orb may be better than it is now. I see it still being a problem. They are made and shipped to be used as they are, not to be lapped and all that crap then used. If it isn't cooling better than the stock it sucks lapped or not. It should atleast cool better than stock not lapped and Crazy better if you lap it. Something isn't right with the setup.

Oh and Inno your link isn't right.

This message was edited by Mlodorous on 28 Mar 2002 05:42 PM

There the link is fixed. Yeah lapping the tin coated crap off help me drop like 3 degrees or so. But like mlodorous said, the crystal orb should better than the Stock HSF. Make sure the crystal orb contact the GPU all the way.

This message was edited by INNOVISION on 28 Mar 2002 05:49 PM

HMm, Well it was on top of the GPU itself. but.. the area of the fan is small it seems. i mean.. after putting on the fan... i could see the green corners of each edge of gpu. but thats the board part of it. the clips not sure if they go completly threw the card becaues the holes are smaller and in some places bigger. but its not tight against the gpu for sure.
The Stock Heatsink that it comes with is longer..and it like fits tightly against each ram-sink too. was wondering if this design..maybe they got it more effective being 3 heatsinks.
2 ram 1 GPU.. but all touching to distribute heat evenely and more cool. *shrugs*

Also, i understand the concept of getting off the nickle covering so its just copper base exposed.
but whats this about lapping it?

This message was edited by Cashman000 on 28 Mar 2002 05:57 PM

Lapping it will reveal the copper, and the heat will transfer directly to the copper and will cool down the GPU better. Yeah,I think you are not installing the crystal orb correctly. There should be like 4 small hole and 2 biger holes around your GPU. Clip the crystal orb on the 2 bigger holes. Also, what kind of thermal paste you are using ?

I'm using artic silver II.

and the two bigger holes i had it in... both lil clips go into it... but slide out... its like its a little to big for it.
so the fan stays on... but you can physcialy move it..or see that its loose.
So i put it in the smaller holes. even though..it doesnt fit ALL THE WAY threw... it goes in half way and its tight.. and the heatsink isnt getting any closer to the gpu.. its sitting on it.

Hmmmm, thats pretty strange. Well if the clip dont work than ARCTIC SILVER ADHENSIVE will do that job. But make sure to mix it it using the ration of 1:1:1 . So that mean PartA : PartB : ARCTIC SILVER II .

Looks like i got work to do then.

But honestly.... why would they make this heatsink nickle plated?
i mean... nickle....isnt that like taking a heatsink and making it useless.
wonder what they were thinking.

Tin coating it make it look very very nice. All you have to do is get all the copper of the bottom and it will drop a few degrees. I dont really know what thermaltake was thinking. I should help them with designing video card cooler.
