Few months ago everyone touted that GDDR 4 memory was cheaper to make than GDD 3 >_>

I think it is actually cheap to manufacture. But because yields are so low cost is becoming expensive. If 1 out of 5 are working then you effectively just increased your production cost 5 fold. While it is cheaper to produce per chip. It is more expensive to produce per working chip.

the GTX seems good , but i think the GTS will be a winner , doesnt need as much power is smaller , probably cooler aswell , ans the specs are not that much different

Main thing to notice is the fact that the card is CPU limited so much.

If you loo at victors page you notice that after he OC's just a bit to 3.6ghz his kentsfield he gets about 1k more score in 3dmark06.

Very interesting.

that's true, even if there is a bottleneck, it's not like you're gonna notice it in gaming. You're probably gonna play Crysis at max settings and at 1280x1024 with really smooth fps anyway

Just read that Nvidia is (according to an german site) recommending a 400/450 Watt PSU with 30/26 (GTX/GTS) Amps on the 12 volt rail for the cards, but why 2 power connectors? Maybe one for the core and one for the memory or something equal? Or else they're totally wrong.

Anyway even if I had the money/setup for this card, I wouldn't buy it, because it's the first of it's generation and therefor far from perfect.

1) I think we may need to mount our HDDs outside our system if things get bad, but I think it will fit. It may reqire SATA drives though since those cables are thin and flexible.
2) A contact of mine say it runs fairly quiet and the model he saw running was "cool". This really doesn't surprise me since its known that asus did the refernce design. If its one thing about asus, other than quality, is stuff running quiet.

Maybe it's just for more "stability" like with the 6800Ultra. Because back then then the 6800GT which was identical except for the clocks, easily ran @ the same speeds. But if you wanted to juice up even more it became harder...

Other than that the webpage's title has "8800" in it now, apart from that, nothing much really.

p.d.t.: sorry my english

I'm pretty sure it will work just peachy with both, i remember my 5900 and it ran dx8 games really well.

Also whats with the size, way too big, im sure that things in the computer world are supposed to get smaller and more powerful. If we had it nvidias way, in 10 years we will be back to using computers that take up whole rooms.
