Core 2 Quadro Compatibility -

So I read that article and it says that Core 2 Quadro will be compatible with P5B Deluxe. But then I read another article somewhere and it said that 965 chipsets will need a new revision of their boards. Anyone have anymore info on to these Quad Cores? I'm quite interested into getting on for my machine but don't want to buy a new motherboard
Wanted to use my left over E6400 to build another workstation.

I heard that the quad cores are gonna only be released as extreme editions at first, so that means mucho $$$. I think about £600-700 for the quads

GIGABYTE P965/G965 motherboards will support core 2 Quad
"With the newly released BIOS updates, the P965/G965 series of motherboards from GIGABYTE now allows users to unleash the extreme performance and advanced energy efficiency that Intel Quad Core processors have to offer...."

To be honest I can't see intel releasing quad cores for the mainstream until early 2008 or until AMD release something to beat the core 2. I think they will want to milk the core 2 before releasing another.
Also games have only just started to utilise 2 cores it will be a long time before they code games for 4 cores.

Game industry is moving too slow They better hurry and make games that will use up 80 cores. Intel's next step after 4 is 80!

The Core 2 Extreme QX6700 is down for a November release. The mainstream variants are in Q1 2007. AMD will be showing demo's of Quad core Barcelona-based systems before the end of the year, with actual CPUs shipping by mid-2007. Intel's, FULL quad core, 45nm Yorkfield is pencilled in for the second half of 2007.
By this time next year quad cores will probably be in most new systems.
Alan Wake can make use of 4 cores. It uses one for physics, one for data streaming and one for preparing the data.
If games are properly coded for dual core, they should scale well to 4 cores, to some extent. Plus with 4 cores you don't have to worry about background processes as much. The full power of the game engine is easier to reach without windows bogging it down.
With the 80 core thing it's not so much a case of "multi-threaded" applications using all those cores. The cores are simpler and each processes different things. For instance, if the OS sends some html pages to be rendered, the cpu has a core which does just that. And it does it VERY fast. Or if H264 needs to be decoded or encoded, you have a core made to that. Then there are cores for AI or physics, javascript, virus scanning, encryption/decryption, windows kernel, jpeg.... and whatever else.
This step up is to make use of space after die shrinks by moving away from general purpose processors. Purpose built cores could increase performance by 10,000%. It won't get there as quick as the 80 core thing Intel showed off, but that is the first step.
