x1950xtx /psu advice needed

hey guys,following kill4l's thread leads me to believe i can go below a recommended psu spec and be ok-just not overclock my card. am i right about this? reason im asking is because im building a system using a hiper 550w psu (Output +3.3V@30A,+5V@36A,+12V1@20A,+12V2@18A,-12V@0.8A,+5VSB@2.5A) and the only thing i have to get is a video card. i was planning on a x1950xtx, but man i dont want to ditch a psu i havent even used yet.im not really a video card overclocker.will the card run? will it run poorly? wasting $ on a psu would be a major dissapointment, but spending $ on a top shelf video card, and holding it back with a weak psu would be completely dumb. any thoughts would be helpful-Pale

Most likely the Hiper will fun the card just fine. You should even be able to overclock it okay as well. What it probably won't do very good is run Xfire, as that demands a PSU with GOOD power distribution and very solid 12v rails.

Should be fine that PSU, the x1950 uses less power than the x1900, and theres loads of ppl powering them on 400w and less.

that psu should be able to run that easily , hiper make good psu's

thanks-thats a relief.my system is intel E6600 on a asus p5 wdh deluxe-2 74 gb raptors(raid 0) 400 gb western digital se16 - 2 gb corsair ddr2/800c4.just trying to save alittle more cash for the x1950xtx.this should be it untill the second gen dx10 cards come out. then it will be time for a new psu and xfire
