Lightbulb a good program to create a game???? - 07-09-2006, 00:02 | posts: 775 | Location: Fayetteville, NC

I am thinking about going to school to be a game creator after I get out of the military. I was wondering if anyone knew of some programs that I could check out that I could play around with to see what it all involved? I prefer free if possible

Games are usually developed on so many different levels, it takes more than "a program", you know. I'm not very familiar with game production, but I think you'll have a hard time finding one software that you can play around with.

The Regex Coach

http://www.weitz.de/regex-coach/#install

http://www.weitz.de/regex-coach/

The Regex Coach is a graphical application for Windows and Linux/x86 (also usable on FreeBSD) which can be used to experiment with (Perl-compatible) regular expressions interactively. It has the following features:

* It shows whether a regular expression matches a particular target string.
* It can also show which parts of the target string correspond to captured register groups or to arbitrary parts of the regular expression.
* It can "walk" through the target string one match at a time.
* It can simulate Perl's split and s/// (substitution) operators.
* It tries to describe the regular expression in plain English.
* It can show a graphical representation of the regular expression's parse tree.
* It can single-step through the matching process as performed by the regex engine.
* Everything happens in "real time", i.e. as soon as you make a change somewhere in the application all other parts are instantly updated.
