I've been having this problem for some time and no one seems to be able to help me. So I figure it's time to ask again maybe someone has figured it out by now!

I'm runnig win98 with a Herc Prophet2 Pro, installed in the AGP slot. My system goes into standby mode fine but wont wake up. When you go to wake it up the system hangs and you are left with verticle lines and a frozen keyboard. The only thing to do is to reboot. Herc. was no help, they are aware of the problem and are trying to fix it.... yeah right! Microsoft is not much help either. They also know of this glitch and seem to have a beta patch to fix it but no one knows where to download this mythical patch.

I know other people are having this problem too!!! Has anyone figured it out yet!!! on Microsoft
Thanks in advance Hobgoblin351

Maybe if you use different drivers (like Nvidia's Detonators) and/or change the settings in bios Power managment can help.

First of all, don't go to standyby mode. It's REALLY bad for your computer and it REALLY messes up your computer. All u need to do is turn off the monitor . To turn off standby, go to Start > Settings > Control Panel > Power Management.
Thanks but I've tried many detonator drivers, and tweaked the BIOS.
They all lead to dead ends.

My system:
Mobo: Abit133BX-Raid
P3(733mhz), oc'd to(760mhz)
Graphics:Hercules Prophet2 Pro 64Mg
Sound:Creative Soundblaster Mp3+

Nothing too complex there, it's a pretty straightforward system. I run Win98 with the service pac upgrades. Herc. annd also Microsoft, both tell me the problem lies in the AGP port. I guess when 98 was written there was not much AGP hardware available so conflicts arise. I've tried switching around some of the IRQ's but that seems like trying to find a needle in a haystack! Thanks.

Hey soccorboy,
Whats so bad about standby? I dont have my system set up for that now. I've only set the power management for screen saver, but I would like to be able to save on my electric bill.

i don't remember exactly, but i think it has something to do with the hard drive and other parts of the computer (Cpu?). I'm not sure how it gets damage, but there can be damage to your computer. Trust me, the computer BARELY uses electricity, it's the monitor that gobbles up electricity .
see that you learn something new everyday!! I know this is going to sound silly but...... so what do you do just go out to the desk top and turn off the monitor? What settings do you use in your power management? and do you still leave your screensaver turned on?

OK standby is a nice feature only if you can control it! I mean that you have to set the conputer into standby mode when you are going to leave for a while. It gets really annoying if for example one of your HD stops and then you try to access some data... then you wait until it fully restarts!

In order to set only the monitor from standby you must disable screensaver and set the desired ammount of time after the monitor goes into standby from start - settings - power managment

I have had the same problem in WinME it went to standby one day then stopped the next ! nVidia nor microsoft had answer for me.

So just dont use it, turning the screen off saves most of the power compared to the hd's etc (if you are that worried about power anyway !)
you know what i do.....i set my power-managment to always on, standby modes are all off i.e. harddrive and monitor. screensaver turned off. what i do is i just leave my **** runnin' but, I just turn off my monitor. i don't want to hae my monitor in suspend/standby mode because it's still on and it's a 19" so i don't want to screw it up also, it generates too much heat so i just turn it off whenever i'm not using it. mind you....i'm not wasting my computers power i always have a program called United Devices running, it's like Seti@home except instead of doing something useless like finding extraterrestrial stuff it helps find a cure for cancer. i joined a team. the teams name is amdzone.com that's their website too.
Wait how can a computer barely use any power? It uses a 300 watt power supply...

Just because you have 300W power supply in your comp, it doesn't mean you use all 300W.

This is the max power rating, meaning it can provide upto 300W of power at any one time.

you should only use 70-80% of your psu Watt rating. you don't want to over work it that will decrease it's life and generate too much heat.
