Ok, recently i have purchased an ADSL package consisting of an Alcatel Speed Touch ADSL Modem, with a service speed of 750kbps Dl and 128kbps Ul...

The service cost £15 a month all included with 15 gigs a month, wich is pretty good... (in Belgium).

So far the speed has puzzeld me, from what i have deducted is that with a connection max bandwith of 750kbits per second, wich should give me a max download capacity of 93kilo bytes a second, running on average around 50KB per sec depending on the server I am downloading off...

Am i right or should i be expecting alot more from my modem?

Anyone...

go to www.dslreports.com and then "tools" then "tweak test" it will tell you if your registry needs tweaking .

I'm sure your provider told you that you speed is very dependant on the quality of the lines going to your home as well as the distance to your phone co. central office.
dslreports.com has sevral tweaks to help your connection work faster and more efficiently.

Alright peeps. That speed is right.

To convert bits to bytes =

bit / 8 = byte

so 750,000 / 8 = 93750 bytes/sec

But you should be sustaining around 80kbyte on a good dl server. Many servers wont give you that.
