Routers....

Hmmm routers... <IMG SRC="smileys/eek.gif"> <br>
I am getting a cable modem between friends in a month or two and didn't want to have my comp sharing the net with 6 other peeps and being on all the time.<br>
So I wanted to get a cheapish decent router. <IMG SRC="smileys/biggrin.gif"> <br>

A couple caught my eye... Linksys etherfast routers 1/4/8 port (£126)<br>
and the SMC Barracade 4/8 port jobbies.(£170)<br>

If anyone has any experiance with these then please let me. It would be good if someone had used both !!! <IMG SRC="smileys/approve.gif"> <br>

It seems that the barricade has better security but virtually no logging. The linksys has had some mixed opinions about online gameing but nothing comfirmed. <IMG SRC="smileys/suspect.gif"> <br>

Has n e 1 got any tips about setting these things up ??? <IMG SRC="smileys/wink.gif"> <br>

I love my Linksys router. <IMG SRC="smileys/redface.gif"> Their tech support is kinda crappy, but who's isn't? <IMG SRC="smileys/puke.gif">

 

Went for the SMC.<br>

tis cool. Very fast and stable, firmware update went smooth. 6 people set up with another hub and sharing a cable modem. DHCP works a treat.<br>

Will reccomend it. Only £125. Not bad.

 

As long as you have the latest firmware for the Linksys, it works great for games. Besides, I have seen the 4-port version for $70.

 

The SMC works great. All games run and the firewall is pretty good too. There is no slow down between the router and any pc. The linksys has a slight delay. Now have 5 pc's running off it. DHCP server kicks arse too !
