I've currently got 2 comps, and the one I'm on right now has a one-way cable modem connection-download(phone-upload the other way- ). My other comp is my computer and gaming rig. When we get the 2-way cable connection(as soon as they check EVERY piece of fiber-optic wiring between the server and my neighborhood), I want to network the 2 comps and cable modem on LAN. What is the best way to do this?(I will simply lead the cat-5 cable through the vents between the 2 comps, and connect the modem to the same hub).
Any help would be appreciated. And, what is the practical performance difference between 10 and 100 Mbps. And with how many comps does it become important?
you have cable right ? i think the best sollution is to set up a LAN (2Nic's with a cat. 5 X-over cable between them),
in the pc that is connected to the web, use some internet sharing program....

10 Mbit (eight bits = one byte) 10/8= theoretically max speed of 1.25 mb/s , for internet sharing is this enough

100 Mbit full duplex = 200Mbit = 200/8 = 25mb/s
if it's for filesharing & stuff, this is real nice, but expensive to expand....if it's just 2 pc's hooked to each other, go for this !

euh, what else ?

what are you trying with that optic fibre ??

They cable modem connection travels over the fiber-optic lines, and they need to be tested and some possibly replaced to ensure the bandwidth necessary for a two-way cable connection.
And, if I use a hub, can I just connect the two comps to it and the modem to the upload? (How else could I do it?)'Cuz I use the ethernet card to connect to the modem also.
euh , this would be the situation

incoming internetline

the first pc would have the internet connection , and connection to your LAN (means a NIC and your modem from your internet)
internet sharing enabled

the HUB of your LAN

2nd pc surfes trough the LAN trough the first PC....

But, how could you connect directly to the hub and the modem at the same time? Or do you mean to connect to modem to the hub? Or what?I can only have 1 network card.
