hey i know that setting my ip address to "specify own ip address" and filling in 192.168.1.1 in the ip box and 255.255.255.0 in the subnet box will help in the boot speed and also stop IE from stalling/freezing because it's no longer lookin' for a network but, what one do i put it in

i have my ethernet card listed in device manager then right below it is NTS Ethernet PPPOE adapter

so what one should i put that ip address(s) in?

It depends on the OS, Win2K is different, but for Win98 you just:

Right click on Network Nieghborhood,
At the bottom of the menu, select Properties,
The Network window should open up,
Highlight TCP/IP and then click on the Properties box,
Click on the IP Address folder and then
Click on Specify an IP Address.

You can also choose to run 'winipcfg' to see what yer IP is currently set to.
