a8n-sli premium sound issues

im trying to use the onboard sound with my asus a8n-sli premium mobo i recently installed. did clean format and windows install first, and installed all the correct drivers, etc. when i connect my microphone the avrack program will autodetect it as a microphone, which is fine. however, it does not function in sound recorder or ventrilo. also, when i plug my creative 2.1 speaker system into the line out audio port, it autodetects it as another microphone. the speakers are in fact working as speakers. why isnt my mic working? :/

ARe you settin gyour sound Mixers for the Mic? You usually have to Un-mute it aswell.. Thx. thats weird that it's picking up your speakers as another mic, Verify you are pluggin everything into the right jacks..Hope that helps.
