How bad is the Celeron for gaming? I have read some sucky benchmarks with it, but I think they are using the 810 video. I want to run either one I get on a 133 or so bus (bringing the p3 to 1.0GHz and the celeron to 1066). I am using a BX motherboard and I will be using a GeForce2 Pro video card (which I've heard doesn't have any trouble running the 89MHz AGP speed). The P3 appears to be about $30 more expensive. Won't the only difference be the cache (128kb vs. 256kb.)Is it worth it?
Thanks!

Even with the lower clock? The stuff I've found now seems to say that the P3 has a slight edge at the same clock (when put in the same system), and this was with the 66 bus celeron oc'd to meet the P3. Won't the cache speed stay the same no matter what speed I clock the processor? If so, then the Celeron should have a little faster cache, too. It's a tough call for me....

Yeah, I'm beginning to think the P3 is the way to go. A big reason is that I don't have a huge amount of room for a CPU cooler, so I think I should stick with slot 1 so I won't loose any space with a slotket adapter. Now I just need to find a good slot 1 cooler, since my old one does not seem to be doing the job

If your like me and you get the Celeron you will just wish you got the P3 until you actualy go out and get it and then have to find someone to pawn you Celeron off to.

now that the celeron supports a 100mhz bus it does seem like a little better buy but, the p3 would literally smoke it in anything you put them up against. it's only 66 more mhz. the extra 128kb of cache would help alot.

Yeah, I like the AMD chips and all, but I like my motherboard. It would be prohibitively expensive for me to buy a Duron and new mobo (that's as good as my current one). I will say that my next system will most likely be AMD though. I'm not overly pleased with Intel.

I used an Alpha 3125 on my PIII 733EB and it was awesome. Not sure exactly what you meant on the spacing issue you mentioned, but if you have 60mm clearance, the Alpha is the way to go.

Well, I just got in my p3-750 slot-1 with the slot-1 Orb, and mated them with arctic silver II, and it is great. It runs 20 deg. C at idle, and only about 22 under load at 915MHz. I was completely fine until I tried to boot at 1GHz. It wouldn't finish post. No big deal, I'll run it just below, and it is smooth as silk. I would have liked to get it to a 133 FSB, but I'm not too worried about it.

Oh, my spacing issue is with my Soyo 6BA+100. It has the DIMM slots too close to the slot, but I probably could have fit that OK, once I change cases (which I will be doing in a couple weeks), but I also didn't have much height in my current case because the power supply is right above the processor (I know my case sucks, that's why I'm changing it). I was just impatient, and figured the Thermaltake would be fine, and it has been.
