Default Accelero X1 on Gainward 7800GT GLH 512MB - 03-26-2006, 12:58 | posts: 110 | Location: Croatia - Zadar | User is Offline

Now i have Accelero X1 on my 6800 Ultra and the cooler is monsterous. It's 10+c better than VF700 and VF900 . I got DFI NF4-Ultra-D and decided to go for PCI-E . I will lose to much money on my 6800Ultra in september, when i'am going to buy complately new rig ; So i sold it now for 250 euros . I'am going now for Gainward 7800GT 512MB GLH but the only thing that bothers me is it heat and layout. It's different from NVIDIA's so i'am not sure if Accelero is going to fit. Has someone tryed it on 6800GS/7800GT GLH please let me know

Belive it! Now my 6800Ultra is under 60c and with Zalman it was 70+ . Until accelero i was using stock dual-slot cooling but it was riping my ears of . But can accelero fit on 7800GT GLH

According to the AD from AC, AcceleroX1 support 6800/7800 series, the layout of 7800GT is same as 7800GTX, so you can use it on your 7800GT card.
I also notice that 7900GTX is also using same layout of 6800/7800GTX, so, you may also use the AcceleroX1 on later 7900GTX.
Not sure AcceleroX1 will support 7900GT or not, because the board size is shorter than GTX version.

plus i think.... the accelero would be OVERKILL on the 7900 series. seriously..... they're supposed to create quite a bit less heat due to the smaller die size...... and the Accelero is probably the same size as the 7900 series's PCB...... if not bigger. lol. Might start seeing more VGA coolers like the Vantek Iceberg (think that's what it was called). boy would that be funny.

I asked for Gainward 7800GT GLH and here the pic. You can clearly see it's different.

Wow @.@, this Gainward board is not the standard layout.
I think you can try Zalman VF900 cu, the Accelero may not fit to your card.

I think you can send the email(with those photos) to AC to ask them whether it is possible to fit to this speical layout card. I think this is the best way to check the compatibility.
I also suggested Accelero or Thermal right cooler rather than Zalman VF900Cu, becasue I just reviewed and tested VF900 on X1900XT yesterday, the result is not so good, Max temp 75C in 3D marks06 recorded by riva tuner...
While the Accelero X2 is 65-66.
I would do the test again becasue I don't want to believe this is the real performance of VF900Cu. hope that it is just the quality problem only. Becasue the GPU/copper base contact is perfect, it is connected to the motherboard 3pin fan sockect directly, the motherboard monitioring software shown the fan speed is 2650RPM.
So, I cannot post the review result yet, otherwise I will receive a lot of emails from readers....
If anyone in here had done similar test by use of same method but got a better result, please reply to me, then I will send it back to zalman and get a new one for test. thx~

I've just got the gainward 7800gt 512 glh PCI-E and tried to fit a NV5 arctic cooler.
It DID NOT fit!

i found that area where th case slopes up to the fan is fouled by the card.

The AGP version (peitted by gainward) must be a different layout or a slightly modified cooler.

goa try and exchange it for another cooler.

I had asked to the reviewer about his review result.
Actually, he is using Zalman VF900 Full fan speed 2500RPM to compare with half fan speed of ATI stock cooler and Accelero(both fan are connected to VGA card and the fan speed also controlled by by the card)

I had suggested him to do the test at full speed mode(ATI stock cooler, Accelero) and measure the temp by riva tuner, but he rejected my suggestion....

If you click into his forum for this review, you will find a lot of agruments for his review by other people/reviewers.
I don't want to comment on it anymore, becasue I'm also testing VF900Cu/AcceleroX2/ATI stock cooler by X1900XT.
I have sent my VF900Cu to zalman to get a new one for test, becasue the temp is not so good and I want to confirm it again.

Nowaday, it is not easy to write a review like before, firstly, you are facing pressure from the chief Editor, but if you write something incorrect, you will face hundred of challenge/complaint emails from your readers..

FYI.
I recorded 75C for X1900XT/VF900Cu in 3D marks 06 test
and Martin Record 69C for X1800XT/VF900Cu in 3D marks 06 test.
We had also posted the Riva tuner Temp log file in bleow link, you can check it for detail.
http://forums.guru3d.com/showthread.php?t=176760

This is not fair to comment to any review result, becasue different reviewer may use very different method to test the cooler.

Up to this moment, I still suggest Riva Tuner is the best O/C and temp monitoring software.
If one day we can have a standardized test platform, then we can post more accurate result to reader. Becasue they are basing our result and comment to choose their cooler, If our result cannot reflect the truth correctly, then we will loss the trust from readers.

The linked Tuan Huynh vga card cooler results are TOTALLY USELESS, since the Zalman VF700 and VF900 were both tested at Low and High fan speeds, whereas the Stock and Accelero coolers were only tested when directly connected to the vga card's fan connection. And from the indicated Stock and Accelero poor results it is more than likely that, unlike for the volts supplied to both VF700/VF900, the vga card's fan connection was not at any time providing 100% output volts?

And just for interest, although this particular review involved testing with a ATI vga card, I have seen similarly tainted reviews involving Nvidia cards !

This particularly unsavoury method of doing product comparisons is known to be a very common practice among reviewers who are "fans" of the product which just happens to easily win the contest. Which means the review is actually nothing more than a product promotion exercise.

Of course it could just have been that Tuan was a little naive on the importance of using a "level playing field approach" when doing product comparison reviews?

Either way, the review was a waste of time, since appearing nothing more than a biased promotional exercise, even the favoured Zalman cooler results can't be trusted !!
