Default Digital TV Cards DVB-T and radio - 03-06-2006, 21:20 | posts: 441 | Location: UK

I'm looking for a TV card. I think the latest ones are DVB-T or something like that. Some also have a radio receiver.
What kind of channels will I receive in the UK and will I need any other equipment?

You will get standard FM reception through the radio port. You will also get digital radio through the DVB-T port (goes to TV aerial).

However, check your coverage, some areas still have very poor digital reception;

A better bet would be a hybrid card that can do digital TV AND analogue - Evesham Micro's rebadged Dabs Value PVR card won a recent PCF roundup, although the Leadtek WinFast DTV1000T also did well. The Pinnacle PCTV 310i had a very nice software suite, but performance was not QUITE as good - PCF admit this might have been their fault though, as they are not sure if they removed all drivers from previous card before installing the Pinnacle.

In general, Tv Tuners on a PCI card do far better than the external USB jobbies.

Which channels will I be able to get with an analogue and digital hybrid TV card?

EDIT: I just clicked a few links and found some channels.
Not many channels available - decent channels anyway.

Yeah, Freeview is just the free channels. Not great, but better choice than terrestrial.

Personally I gave up TV years ago, so I have no real criteria for judging them.
