Default Recording from DVI out from Video card to a recording device!?!?! - 02-16-2006, 01:02 | posts: 10 | Location: Atlanta

The reason why I'm asking this question here is that I want to capture Hi Def from my computer DirectX Game, and trying the svideo just does not capture in a res high enough for what my project needs to be and here is my question to the HDGurus here. Is it possible to capture video from a video game via a DVD recorder or something of HI quality? Right now I'm using Fraps, but the problem with fraps is that it knocks your frame rate down to nearly nothing, So with that said I would really hope someone can shed some light on this subject for me! Thanks!!!

IF your card has DVI output then you MAY be able to use that...

Did the OP ever solve his problem?

I am currently in the same boat, trying to record World of Warcraft running at 1920*1200 resolution.

So far i have been trying to find an external solution, that does not require a second computer.

The recording device recording the signal at a bit lower resolution would not be a problem, as it would still be significantly higher than what Fraps or other software solutions offer, and with no performance hit on the game computer.

1. Are there any HDV camcorders that have a dvi/hdmi input, and would be able to record the signal from the graphics card DVI output?

2. Are there any D-VHS decks that have a dvi/hdmi input, and would be able to record the signal from the graphics card DVI output?

3. Are there ANY external devices that have a dvi/hdmi input, and would be able to record the signal from the graphics card DVI output?

4. Failing all of the above, a second computer might have to be used to do the recording, but are there any cards for high resolution recording from DVI out in windows enviroment, that are not priced over 1000$ ?

If you Have component output from your GFX card you can output the signal and record it on this HD-VCR http://www.nextag.com/JVC-HMD-H5U-D-...20/prices-html
However it is unlikely that you will find a HD video recorder with DVI-in, if you don't have component outputs, there are DVI to component adapters out there google it you will find some.

S! everyone. ive been looking all over the internet for this kind of information as well. no one really has a good answer.

as far as i can tell, there are format, analog/digital problems to be considered.

as far as DVR inputs, i found at newegg the Toshiba D-R410 recorder. it has both s-viseo and DV inputs. its recording formats are DVD-Video,CD-DA,CD-R,CD-R,DVD-RAM,DVD-R,DVD+R,DVD-RW,DVD+RW,DVD-R,DVD+R,VCD,SVCD,MP3,WMA.
its playback formats are DVD-RW(VR and Video mode),DVD+RW(VR Mode),DVD-R(Video mode),and DVD+R(Video mode).
all these different formats and modes are confusing. i have no idea if any of these could be used for recording quality footage of games.
