Interesting interview with someone from Microsoft...

None of the 1st gen HD-DVD players will output 1080p, and Microsoft implies it's because of the HDMI specs. The head of the HDMI group responds, stating that 1080p devices already exist and the HDMI spec has supported 1080p output from day one.
