Default Looking For: TV/PC monitor - 02-04-2006, 06:28 | posts: 973

I'm looking for a great TV (preferably flat screen) which will serve my gaming purposes as well.
Not too expensive and not too big. I'm thinking around 20"+
I can't really find anything good on the net, because they are either PC monitors, or TVs.

Then there's only one choice:

HOT STUFF. This I almost bought, but alas I went with a 19" LCD with 12ms responce. I regret not buying this, read the user reviews so you get a 16:10 ratio and not 16:9.

This monitor is 16:10 and I believe it also supports true 1080i signals, if it doesn't it at least does 720p.

Great, thanks. Isn't this similiar to the Dell 240?

EDIT: And anyway I can de-tach the mount and add a wall mount. I don't really have too much space in my room.

EDIT2: Man, that thing looks awesome and great price!

If you're going to double it up as a computer monitor, you might want to look for something that has a higher native resolution. 1280x720 is going to look huge on a 27" screen.

The new dell 24" monitor will be coming out in the next couple months (not a set release date yet.) Label the 2407, it should have 8ms response time, HDCP support for compatibility with newer video formats (Blu-Ray, HD-DVD) and also compatibility with Windows Vista.

The Native resolution will be 1920x1200 (16:10)

The 2405 has Component/VGA/Composite inputs. However, it is unknown whether or not the 2407 will implement these same features.

The 2405, retails for about $1,000. But with all the special deals Dell puts on there products you can see the price as low as $750.00.

Although, don't expect that right off the bat on the 2407, they probably won't hold sales on that monitor until there supply of 2405's have been depleated.

That Dell 2405FPW looks awesome as well, but as I said before one of my main criterias is if I can remove the stand and add a proper TV mount as I don't have too much space in my room.

HDCP (HighBandwidthDigitalContentProtection) is the highest priority for anyone buying a digital/HDTV display.

Without HDCP, you won't be able to play HD-DVD and Blu-Ray in HD (you'll be stuck with 480p), and Windows Vista will require HDCP as well for those formats.

Any display with HDMI with have HDCP and most displays built after 2003 will have HDCP on the DVI connection.

Smaller PC monitors have just begun implementing HDCP on their displays, so read up before you buy.

Yeah, thanks HanShot I read about that as well. But will I be able to mount that Dell screen? From my experience with Dell screens, they usually have mounts that can't be removed.

I would recommand my montior , which is the Gateway FPD2185w, its a great montior reguardless of whos name is on the front. i been using it for like 6 months now.

Link to the specs of it.

http://accessories.gateway.com/Acces....htm?ref=merch

I not having any problems with it, its a LCD TFT LCD montior With HD support. It also have pip .It has, VGA,DVI,Compsite,Component, and s-video connections. Also have HDCP thru DVI.

I dont notice any ghosting, I dont have any black lights. I have my Gamecube plug into the component plugs with the GameCube Digital Audio/video plugs.

I have my cable box plug into the compsite plug, I will change the plugs to S-video later on.

Also the screen of the montior can rotato 90 degress auto rotating.
Beside having DCDI and a 4 port usb hub built on it.

I know it has gateway name on the front and many people may think it may not be a good montior because of it. Thats all it is just a name, read the reviews of this montior.

I know some of gateway product may have gave some people here some problems. But this montior haven gave me any problems, nor the people I know and or talk to problems.

It will cost you 600 dollars but if you cant afford it, then i would say go for the Dell 2005w LCD, it has component plugs, it also also have s-video.
