My Budget is 1200 canadian give or take 100 i guess... gaming isnt a priority burning dvds encodings/decoding dvds, watching dvds with good sound, browsing the web are what i need to be able to do thanks...

All the major players are manufacturing the Core Duos. If you're working a lot with video and sound, then the timing for Dual Core is perfect! It seems I bought mine just a few months too soon.
Check Futureshop's web site. They have a few Duals coming in about two weeks.

i installed HL2 and FEAR.and mOY GOD..they run good
with 1GB of ram this is good as desktop

none of those are gaming laptops so that won't be an issue lol.

Since you are only doing basic computing, get the cheapest one. You don't need a gig of ram to browse or play dvd's. I am also a big fan of Acer laptops..they have had great reliablity since we started reselling them.

I would definately reccomend the Acer with the Core Duo processor. The Core Duo processor excels in multi tasking and encoding. Take a look at some of the benchmarks (being compared against some of AMD's dual core desktop offerings) yourself. Even if it costs a bit more, the Core Duo processor definately has the price/performance ratio worth going with.

ahh probably the reason is my bad english.i didnt mean to insult u. the thing that i mean is about;ok u sell it.and i know that acers are good because i try to buy one of them to my brother . all i just want to add that.RAM is the matter of all time.
