Default The fastest laptop? - 01-17-2006, 00:56 | posts: 3,857

Just wondering guys... Which is the fastest laptop for a user?

No matter if its a branded laptop or maybe an ibook or any non-branded laptop.

I heard somebody talking about the lastest ibook from iMac, but, is that real?

Are they better or faster even than the newest ibook?

I had never seen the laptop forums.
Sorry for posting this thread at first in the Pub.

It depents what you want it for. I'm assuming you are a gamer or you wouldn't be on guru. As for the fastest performing laptop for gaming, it's either the alienware area 51 series or the dell xps notebooks. Both could almost go toe to toe with most desktops.

Alienware
Voodoo
Falcon-NW

I have seen those Alienware laptops and they have even AMD X2 processors and FX.57 and FX-60 processors.

So, does anybody knows which would be the best?

Or for example:
Lets say i want to build a PC, but this time, give me the best parts for a laptop.

OMG, alienware laptops are so huge.

I really don't like them. I mean they come with custom everything. They give you a backpack, a cell phone holder, a tshirt, an xp theme with their logos everywhere.

I mean the hardware is sound obviously, but the premium is so high you might as well go with the original power house computer company Falcon Northwest.

Gaming on Laptops is really not worth it. Unless you're a travelling business person. If you need a laptop for school, buy a regular one for like a grand, and then use another grand a build a solid desktop system.

iBooks cannot really be compared since the hardware is a bit different and the OS is more efficient... but that will all change since they're using intel cpu's now... and Mac OS will cross over to IBM/PC comtatible territory.

i think the d900k(the same as alienware) should be the fastest - it depends on what you need: as a gamer, the fx60 is probably the best choice. as a worker, the opteron dualcore (also available) should be the best choice. the amd x2 disqualifies itself, because it is almost similar to the dual opteron, with lower level2 cache and cost the same.

D900K is the same as the alienware one. If you're in the US, get it from pctorque and get a sager. They're great.

http://www.powernotebooks.com/category.php?catId=25

they're coming out with one that has the fx-57 (and soon after fx-60), so that will be the fastest.

but x2 4800 is also tough to beat, as is the Pentium M Sonoma 2.26ghz. both fly.

powernotebooks' forums are a bit slow, but if you ask in the Wide Open forums about the fastest possible laptop (for gaming i assume) you should get an answer in a day or two.

as said above, Sagers are the best, and they build using the same stuff used by falcon NW and such. you just dont get the $3000 paint job.

The Pentium M "Sonoma" 780 at 2.26GHz is pretty much the fastest out there right now. Overclock it using clockgen to 2.4-2.5ghz, and it definately untouchable...

If you really want to, go ahead. But seing as you have a damn fine desktop, why bother?

If you feel you need to, use clockgen for the CPU and the ever trusted RivaTuner for the GPU, unless that happens to be an intel integrated.

I still think the Dell XPS series are the best. They have the 7800 GO gfx card in them too, and they look pretty cool.

I saw my first XPS today. It looks really nice, but the lights are overkill. Also, its huge, and heavy. Not sure what the specs were, but it was pretty new.

The Dual Cores (core duo) will be out anytime now. Wait a bit and then get something like a Sager or Dell XPS with 2GB RAM, Geforce 7800GTX. A notebook like that will smoke all but the highest-end desktops!

There are some intel DC laptops out already. I find their mobile line of chips to be better in terms of use than AMD's. If your getting a laptop it should be because you travel, or do alot of work. Thats were intel shines, the non-gaming croud.

The M's and Yonah's are some real nice chips. In terms of just MHz, they have fallen back from the "Look at us! We have a 3.8GHz CPU" idea, and have instead started making more AMD-like chips. Well, that how i read it anyway.

They reportedly OC really nicely as well.
