Default Is this a good 3d Mark 05 score? - 01-12-2006, 13:05 | posts: 119 | Location: Portugal

I've recently got a

Athlon 64 3200+
Asus A8N Sli Motherboard
Asus N6800GT 256 MB

and I've got a 3DMark score of 4459. Something tells me that this is somewhat low.

Any input on this?

BTW, I'm using the drivers that came with the card: 66.97

Top 6600GTs get about 4000-4100 on a monster system... so it seems a bit low!

My 7800GT gets like something like 7364. I might be wrong but you should get in the 5100-5500+ range I think!

Try the newest drivers... what OS are you using? Do you have DDR400?

Also make sure you have the settings on default for 3dmark (i.e. no AA/AF etc.)

Thanks for the reply.

Something just struck me...Norton Anti-Virus was active (not running, but loaded on the task bar) and v-sync was application controlled.

Can these be the culprits?

BTW, I didn't mess with the settings in 3DMark. I couldn't do it anyway, as it's the free version.

Thanks for the tip. I'll try and update both the video card drivers and the motherboard drivers, versions 81.98 and 6.70 respectively.

Is this a good idea? Are there any other versions that you recommend?

P.S. No tweaked, non-nVidia drivers, please. And have in mind that I don't overclock.

Nope he will not hit 6k without overclocking the nuts off his videocard and processor. He should be higher though. I think the new drivers should give him between 48xx-52xx.

After installing Forceware 77.77 (it seems that 8x.xx is problematic for a few people, so I'm staying away from those, for the time being), the score jumped to 4950. And this with Norton deactivated but still loaded, plus Messenger and a few more tasks. Not bad, I'd say

I still haven't benchmarked my PC with 3D Mark 2005 but with the benchmarking experiences from 3D Mark 2001, I would say change the Windows theme to "CLASSIC THEME" and it makes a little difference in the score.

You would get more scores when the case is opened in Winter than in Summer.

Does disabling the internet give additional scores???

I also read this article which was talking about automatically closing the active programs when playing games.

So I'm wondering about if you could do it for games, you should be able to do it for Benchmarking as well!
