Default 881 points! 3dmark05 - 01-12-2006, 00:16 | posts: 159 | Location: North Wales

Just got my opteron 144 and asrock mobo set up all ok with a radeon 9700

I thought I'd see what I'd get in 3dmark05 as I used to get 2600 points with my old p4 @ 3.6ghz.

It was really jerky running and in the end I got 881. Thats down nearly 1800 points!!

Any idea whats wrong?

When I tried to install them it said AGP drivers not needed for 64bit OS but I'm running 32bit XP.

um yeah, very helpful.

anyways, are you running the drivers off the cd? try going to the asrock website and dl drivers from there.

now knowing that you don't have chipset drivers installed, that is the reason why you're getting such low scores.

Those drivers are the same as on the CD and still tell me I've got 64bit windows although I haven't. It wouldn't be because of SP2 would it?

wait, i forgot to ask a very important question. did you reformat and reinstall windows after the upgrade? because that's a serious change from intel > amd and different chipsets. if you haven't, i'd highly suggest you to do that.

I tried it without sp2 installed and still the same problem with the 64bit message. I can't see why it won't install. Would it be because its xp pro

it's not because of xp pro.

try updating your bios to the latest. i think the newer bios adds support for opterons.

Got the latest bios straight away. Something I've noticed is in my old system the card was nice and cool. Now its too hot to touch even when idle. Also the northbridge is really hot.
