Question Ext Hd Not responding - 01-10-2006, 23:29 | posts: 170 | Location: Dallas

I have a Dell xps gen 2
I have the 60 gig 7200 hd built in and about 4 usb 2 seagate hds.
My problem lies with my external drives only.
Im having isssues with these drives crapping out on me.
When i click a folder within lets say my 300 gig Ext Seagate or my 300 gig Maxtor' quite often they just hang' and when i do a ctrl alt delte it says drive g not responding.
I have to close it down and re click the folder.
This is becoming a daily issue.
Can anyone think what might be causing this.?
I have 1 gig of mem and the XPSGEN 2 has the centrino 2.1 gtz built in' so its a very fast machine.

Sounds like the external HDD's are not getting enough power.

Do they have their own power supply? Or are they running of the USB ports?
