7800GT (BFG OC) Scores a little low? -
01-05-2006, 12:39
| posts: 281
Hey,
I recently got a BFG 7800GT OC, and looking at other threads about 7800 GT scores does mine seem a little low? (I get around ~6900 stock) (stock = BFG OC settings) OC'd more i get around ~7600 (sorry cant remember what the clock speeds where!)
Im using the newest motherboard drivers (they put the score up from ~6700), and the 81.98 drivers from nivdia.

That seems about right, the 3400 is socket 754 (i think) so you are limited to single channel memory which will impact the score slightly

6900 @ stock does seem a little low. I get 6900 @ stock XTPE speeds on my x800 (modded to x850).

ya, socket 754 would hold you back a bit, but 7600 is damn good for what you have. Overclock the processor and see what you can get.

Please tell me why it's the score is too low when compare to other 7800gt? even at stock speed

First, your running your card at close to stock speeds, I only scored 7100-7200 when my card was a 445/1070, so your not too far off. Overclock your videocard, your score will jump significantly, especially if you get the close to 500/1200, but do some testing with your card to find a stable overclock. Also 3dmark benchies are affected by more then just cpu/gpu speeds, as in, condition of windows(how old is format), processes running in background, ram latency settings, and is your o/c on cpu stable. Post your new results.

Guys I have done some testing to help people figure out there 3DMark05 scores, more than likely your scores are not low, here are my results. I will add a 425 and 450 sometime as well. If there is any particular clock you want me to do I will.
400/1000-->6586
470/1100-->7456 (stock)
475/1200-->7668
505/1230-->7913 (1.5v gpu)
PS I am using the system in my sig
EVGA 7800GT CO
AMD 3700+ Stock(2.2GHz)
Mushkin DDR500, 2.5,3,3,6 1T (2.65v)

We all know that several companies are doing stock OCing on the cards they produce: BFG, eVGA, and XFX just to name a few. What you're forgetting about is that not all companies OC the same amount. Unless BFG increased there stock OC they only OC like 20Mhz on the core and a little bit on the RAM. Nothing near what eVGA or XFX has: 445/1070 and 450/1100 respectively. It would only make sense that your card doesn't score as high becuase your stock clocks aren't as high as most peoples.
Just my $.02.
EDIT: BTW, don't even bother trying to compare ATI and nVidia cards using this benchmark. ATI cards always score more in here for some reason. Only real in-game benchies should be used to compare ATi and nVidia cards now.

Not trying to be dificult...but your scores seem a little low if anything. My card at stock (400/1000) gets just over 7000, minor OC (450/1050) ~7600 and with a decent OC (490/1180) i get 8300

your cpu is at 2.5, his at 2.2, plus there are other factors in play like the condition of a windows format for instance

I was just about to get to that with an edit, but as you have posted... the first run was everything stock, including cpu and ram. So my cpu was 200mhz slower and has less cache. Second run was @ 2.3ghz (minor OC on everything) which is about equal to the 3700 and third was 2.5ghz (decent OC on everything). It is now at 2.5ghz all the time unless i push it any more, which i probably will

Yeah my windows very clean, I am only running 2.2 and Single channel ram since its a single stick of 1 gig. From what I have read and researched those scores are right on when compared to other systems.
Also you can see the effect the GDDR oc has, seems like it benefits the most. I will do some more benchmarks and post back.

I don't know I can't get any higher with coolbit2. this is my result 7369 in 3dmark05 with cpu run at 4.0ghz and does the speed of cpu run correct? http://service.futuremark.com/compare?3dm05=1526173
with cootbit2 max i can get
the core max is 468mhz
memory max is 1120mhz
when other people can raise core up to 500mhz and memory 1250mhz?

You're at stock volts though. People who can get like 500/1250 have increased the volts to the GPU and vRAM, like me. I can't get as far as other people though. I need a hard mod to do so.

yeah the most I can get is 480(10 above stock) but with the 1.5v bios mod I can get 505 still not all that great, some people have gotten up to the 550 range.
Hey Are you guys using a delta clock, I have mine turned off.

Can you guys please tell me how to do it with the simple way?
is the GPU AND VRAM must do as hardmod with pencil?

The core can be done by the bios, the mem can not, it has to be hard modded, you can hard mod the core as well if you want to go higher than 1.5volts.
The bios is easy, open nibitor2.6, open your bios, click on voltages(click ok on warning) check extend voltage table(click ok on waring again) Change 3D to 1.5 volts from top drop down menu. And your done, save your file and reflash your card.
