then i came to this on tweakers.net (dutch site)

I wrote Eldy Nodal, the Marketing Communications Manager over at Aureal
Inc., to ask about the status of Aureal's upcoming products and whether or not drivers are still being worked on. The reason for these questions is that Aureal has been having some tough times lately in terms of financial difficulties and staff restructuring. My questions are in silver and his responses are in white. The responses should be noted as being very vague and very short:

PCGN: Due to Aureal's recent financial difficulties, have plans for the SQ3500 sound card been canceled, or are they still in development for the expected release?
Aureal: [It is] put on hold for now.
PCGN: Are drivers for the SQ2500 and SQ1500 still being developed for the Windows 2000 platform, or for that matter, any platform?
Aureal: Yes.

Well there you have it. There's still life at Aureal, but it's sketchy at best. I was really looking forward to seeing the SQ3500 which according to an old press release was due out this quarter of 2000. And for all of you who are curious as to whether they are still working on drivers, his short answer confirms that they are indeed still working on supporting the card for new releases and platforms.
