Question Overclockin a 64 - 12-12-2005, 17:06 | posts: 1,995 | Location: FL USA

I have a Athlon 64 3000+ Veince Core....the highest i can get for an Overclock is 1.9 GHz because my Mem can only run about to 425 MHz before crapin out....
it sits in a MSI Neo4\SLI with 1 Gig of Geil DDR400 4X256MB sticks...
my Mulitpliers are locked to the highest of 5x
how the heck to ppl get there processors up to 2.5 GHz or so ????

Hi,

All i did to overclock my a64 3200+ winchester was set the fsb to 210 or 229 with a multiplier of 10x and set the ht to 4x and voila i got 2100mhz and 2290mhz, I think you were just doing something wrong like the multi at 5x as on my system i can only use 4x or 3x stable.

Anyway maybe an overclocking guru could help if this does not.

Regards

Ian

Yep, drop the HTT multiplier down to 4x and you'll get more overclocking headroom. At 5x, and a 220mhz bus, your pushing the HTT bus up to 1100mhz which is flaky on alot of boards. Also if your ram turns out to be holding you back, set it back to 333mhz and then you should be able to push the CPU further as you have 66mhz of memory speed to play with before it's even back to normal 400mhz.

Glad to have helped, A year ago i was asking a similar thing about the 4X Htt as 64 bit was new to me.

You get used to it tho and my max overclock was 2458mhz before the system locked up, but i hear venice's are better at overclocking than winchesters but from 1.8ghz to 2.2ghz is a 400 mhz increase as was mine from 2.0ghz to 2.45ghz. Watch how much you push it coz you dont want to fry it.

Have fun!

Just make sure to Prime95 test it before going further. A good hour of testing will give you an idea where your at. Once you get to the clock you want, make sure to hit it with a good 12 hour run of Prime95 or SuperPi to ensure your really stable.
