both the 6600 and 6600gt have 8 pipes

the 6600 has a lower memory and core clock

you can try overclocking. check the nvidia section for guides, and use rivatuner 15.8 to watch temps.

As you can see in my specs on the left, I run an Asus6600. Same card basically, although I do have mine watercooled. About the only thing you can do with yours to improve performance is overclock the gpu and memory. Mine maxes out at 500/666 respectively.
You will have to download and install a little script from guru3d called "coolbits" to allow you to overclock the card.
As mentioned in a previous reply, pay very close attention to your temps. I'm not sure what the "red-line" temp of your card is, but I know if you do a little looking around in these forums, you can find a reference to it somewhere.
Good luck, and stick around a while

by limits if you mean clock speeds, no two cards are the same. you have to find your own cards limit.

Anyone correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm 99% positive that the 6600's pipes are all already unlocked. Certain cards are made to a higher standard, then crippled at the manufacturer to be sold as a lower end card. 6600's are not those type.
In order to overclock your core/mem, start with the default clocks and raise in small increments. I have found that all the recent drivers make me use a button "Test Changes" before I can apply any overclocks. If you set an overclock too high for your card, this button will catch it (hopefully).
When it comes to core/mem overclocks, diff drivers do affect your max values. Also, core overclock will affect max memory overclock and vice-versa (i.e. If I set my core to 500mhz, my max mem clock is 662...If I put my core at 498, I can put mem at 666.)
Also, off-topic a bit, there are other ways to increase performance from your system other than just tweaking drivers and overclocking the video card. Dive into the forums and you'll find many ways to get more out of your system. If you have a serious issue, feel free to pm me with it. I will likely see a pm well before this topic again.
---Good Luck---

I too am sure that the 6600 has only 8 pipes - hence the AGP 8x - I'm not sure about the PCI-e versions (or even if you can get them)
yeah, find your best clock speeds with RivaTuner to tweak em and monitor temps, while benchmarking with 3DMark 05
