For myself when I was running 98se I liked to use the 22.40s for my Asus GF2 GTS. Any of the official drivers such as 21.83, 23.11 and 28.32 from should work well with your card. It would probably be best to start with an official driver and go from there.
The one thing you and many others need to realize is that not any one driver is 100% no matter what anyone else says. Just look at any number of posts in this forum and every version will have it's fair share of lovers and haters. Each and every download comes with a general disclaimer of possibly messing up your system. Anybody's preference for one driver or another should always be taken with a grain of salt. Every system and even identical systems can and will react differently. The latest isn't always the greatest.
Check out the Det Driver database http://www.guru3d.com/detonator-dbase-xp/ to guide you in your driver choice.

Follow the Detonator Driver guide http://www.guru3d.com/guide/detonator-install-guide/ and you should be able to try any driver you desire for optimum stability and performance.
I too for the longest time preferred the 22.40. They are fast, good quality and stable. However I heard good things about 23.12 for the GF2 GTS so I tried them. They are as fast as 22.40 as stable but a bit better on the graphics quality.
