Default Would a softquadro 6800GT outperform a 7800? - 09-29-2005, 09:49 | posts: 5 | Location: Melbourne

I'm looking to buy a new system and am currently in such dilemma.

The 6800 is about $100AUD cheaper than the 7800, normally I'd just go out and buy the 6800 and mod it, but because I'm not sure what core the Leadtek 6800GT uses I'll be pretty much taking a gamble.

Would a 7800GT warrent the extra $100 and peace of mind (for being unmoddable =[ ) ?

I suggest you get the 6800GT (unless you are a hardcore gamer 95% of the time... )

Tux, the question here was about Quadro modding.
Are you a heavy DCC / CAD user or mostly a gamer?
If you are a gamer, the above advice is totally useless to maca...

Well the Quadro and Geforce are totally different class. If you want Quadro capabilites then you will know that the 7800GT is made for games. There's a little research on that to read up on.

I understand that a 7800GT is not moddable to a Quadro atm, so if you are doing DCC then the modded 6800GT is obviously better. Something I find really important to use Quadros and FireGLs are their special drivers for applications in OGL. At the end of the day, a low/mid range DCC card costs more then a ultimate gaming card for reasons, as in all specialised professional products on the market.
