Question MOBO update help - 08-31-2005, 18:54 | posts: 28 | Location: St louis

Hey guru's!
Im about to tackle my first build, and had a question. Ive gotten the ASUS A8N-SLI Premium and in preperation for the build tonight I was trying to gather all the files, patches, ect. Ive gotten everything sorted except im somewhat confused on what I need to have my mobo up to date. I took a look at http://support.asus.com/download/download.aspx for my product and it appears there are several updated and tools and things that im not sure if i need, dont need or whatever. Right now I dont know what revisions it will be shipped with, but there is like 8 downloads available off ASUS including these..

A8N-SLI Premium Bios version 1007
Please do read the description before updating BIOS
To avoid crashing file system, please do update the chipset driver to below version prior to this Bios.

For Win2k/2003 32bit system, please download and update chipset drivers V6.66 or later
For Win2003 64bit system, please download and update chipset drivers V6.66 or later
1. Support new CPUs. Please refer to our website at: http://support.asus.com/cpusupport/cpusupport.aspx
2. Update nVidia onboard Lan PXE ROM to V215.0503

ASUS Update V6.07.01 Install Program for Windows 2000/XP/2003 and for Windows 64bit XP/2003.

Silicon Image 3114 SATA RAID driver V1.1.9.9 for Windows XP(WHQL)/2K/2003.

ASUS Ai Booster Utility V2.00.68 for Windows 2000/XP/2003 and Windows 64bit XP/2003.

ASUS Ai Selector V1.00.08.

ASUS Cool&Quiet V1.022 for Windows 2000/XP and for Windows 64bit XP/2003.

nVidia Chipset nTune utility V2.00.21.05 for Windows 2000/XP/2003.

SOOOOOO.. with all that stuff im confused on what i need, what I dont need, what order of install, all the normal NOOBLET questions.
I feel pretty confident on everything else as I have really tried to research everything that it takes, and have countless hours on these forums alone. I would really appreciate some guidence here on what to do. For all I know it may ship with all the latest, but I would like to be prepared just in case.

Thanks in advance for the help.
BTW, Ive got a 3800 Venice, 7800GT, couple 1G sticks o ram in case thats a need to know.

Seeing as this is your first build my advice would be to ignore all of them. Just use the CD that comes with the mobo as required and only use the updates if you experience performance and/or stability issues with your setup.

even if you don't update everything else, it's still a good idea to update the chipset to the latest version (6.66). don't even install the chipset drivers off the cd, just download and install the new ones before anything else.
