I have Fast Write enabled in the BIOS (ver. 3.2) but Sandra shows it disabled.

It also shows it disabled in WCPUID.

How can I tell for sure if it's working at all?

don't know if this works but it worth a try. go in your registry editor (windows botton + r type regedit and then push enter). Find this [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\NVIDIA Corporation\Global\System]
and make a new dword and call it "EnableVia4X" without the "". And the value shall be 00000001

You can also just make a new regfile and type this in it:

REGEDIT4

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\NVIDIA Corporation\Global\System]
"EnableVia4X"=dword:00000001
Try to install the AGP410 driver from http://www.viaarena.com/?PageID=2 , pref. in Safe Mode. Use RivaTuner to force FW and SBA, but with the 23.11's select for AGP "Determined by driver" (otherwise Win98 won't reboot anymore). It helped me to enable Side Band Addressing

Downloaded the VIA AGP410. When it rebooted it asked for the disk "AGP VxD". Tried pointing it at the folder with the AGP410, didn't work.

Having the same problem as Mekanic. Tried various 4-in-1s, reference Bios and every GeForce tweaker I can find. Still can't get Fast Writes enabled.
Does this mean GeForce 3 doesn't support Fast Writes or does it take a different registry line to activate it?
In my case it asks for Viagart.cat; according to Viaarena.com you can just skip the file.
This is my reg file:

REGEDIT4

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\NVIDIA Corporation\Global\System]
"RmCoreName"=hex:4e,56,43,4f,52,45,2e,56,58,44,00< br>
"ReqAGPFW"=dword:00000001
"EnableAGPFW"=dword:00000001
"EnableAGPSBA"=dword:00000001
"ReqAGPRate"=dword:00000004
"Super7Compat"=hex:00,00,00,00
"EnableVia4X"=dword:00000001
"EnableAGPFWStrap"=dword:00000001

It's a mixture of NVmax and Riva Tuner settings (Unwinder can tell which ones are right), but with the 21.83's it is absolutely rockstable. As stated before, with these settings on the 23.11's my Win98 wouldn't load due to "ReqAGPRate"=dword:00000004. So leave this out if you want to try this reg file!

Did you use Riva Tuner and did you unlock it?
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Unwinder\RivaTuner]

"LockDangerSettings"=dword:00000000
DOH! No I didn't. I was wondering why the AGP options were blanked out.

As you can see from my previous reply about the registry entry do I need to include "=dword"?
Only way i was able to get fastwrites was through rivatuner after
unlocking the agp settings. to get SBA i used the nvidia bios
editor to enable SBA in bios then saved the rom and reflashed the
card with nvflash. Worked great on my Leadtek ti500 i've got em
both enabled along with 4x and no probs with the 23.11 drivers.
Doesn't really seem to make any diffrance though, maybe a few
points in 3dmark2001

When you say "early" Gainward Geforce3's what do you mean? I have Geforce3 Ti500. I wouldn't imagine it's an early one.

Anyway, I tried all of the above to no avail

On the back of the freakin box, where it list all the "goodies" it reads:

"AGP 4X supporting Fast Write and Execute Mode"

WTF is up with all the hoops ya gotta jump through to get it to "maybe" work?!?

Sorry, it's just frustrating

If you have the correct:

- registry entries set by Riva Tuner (check and compare them with mine's)
- BIOS settings (mobo/ vid card)
- mobo drivers

and still FW and SBA are not available to you, then I'm afraid that radosuaf is right...

This message was edited by NEChris on 13 Dec 2001 02:27 AM
