you should get a new HSF either like the one i have (in my avatar) wich is a zalman fatal1ty pure copper HSF.or artic cooling, after that you can reflash using the xtpe bios.
have fun with your new card, and god speed

Thx, i will change the vidcard on may so thats why im not gona change the cooler. One more question, if i unlock my 4 pipes and come back to the stock cooler i still will have a temp increace?

Default Quick question on cooling - 03-31-2006, 23:08 | posts: 9,265 | Location: Ireland

I cleaned my machine as it was mega dirty
manged to get the max load temperature @ 77 now( 40/35 idle ), which isint so bad as ive seen some running at 85!!!!!!,
Is the Zalman VGA Cooler VF700-AlCu any good? ( as its just convenient for me to get this one )
I now get 4889( up from 4530 initially ) in 3DMark 05 OC @ 510 GPU/590 mem, will adding the fan allow me to up the core, as it will crash on anything above 513 at the moment, and i get artifacts if i up the mem above 590, will this go higher?
For fun i flashed the ATI 850XT rom, but it actually seemed slower, mabye it was a driver problem although i reinstalled, but i could get the core up to 520+ without it crashing
One other quick question, i ordered another gig of ram and i have a crappy 4600 dell, i.e. 2.4Ghz with an 865PE intel mobo( i.e. AGP ), i want better 3dmark scores , should i scrap the mobo and processor and go for an AMD and say an ASRock mobo - http://www.tomshardware.com/2005/09/16/asrock_939dual/

Hey

got a quick question, do you guys think this card will flash to 16 pipes? don't want the oc, because i prefer to oc via ati tools.
- Sapphire Radeon X850 Pro 256MB DDR3 AGP. DVI-I. ViVo
its on this site: http://www.zercom.nl/index.php?p=30&...=1&s=1&a=17625

what do you think? worth buying or just stick with a cheaper card (this is the cheapest 850 pro i could find in the netherlands).

i really need a vid card upgrade, but won't have a new cooler on it.

Well when you get your new hsf then flash or you can flash your card to xt and then back to pro with 16 pipes till you get the hsf.
with the zalman FS-V7 i get very low temps right now att reads 32c when i play a game like Doom3 it stays at about 47-51c. and that`s at 550/620 6xT2 AA and 16x AF @1600x1200=43fps.(Doom 3)

when i got my card i too flashed it back to pro. and waited a month to get my new cooler.belive me it`s worth the wait.
Keep your card at xt speeds till your new cooler arrives ok, and be careful as to not oc to high.and post your 3d mark scores.

Hi! Didn't success with 16p. I have Spphire 8500pro VIVO PCI-E 1.6ns (with yellow thing). Tried with Sapphire XT bios a few times (also with emty.bin) - got only higher clocks (and fan problems) and 12p. Serial starts with 18050.
Maby I should try XT PE bios?
Is it safe to try with other Manufacturer?

To Karburator,
Try the xtpe and make sure you use "atiflash -newbios -f -p -0 atixtpe.bin" (without the quotes) rename the bios so it is short like: 850pe.bin
if you still get 12pipes then use the ati bios i`m pretty sure it will work with your card.
and get a new hsf.

Thanks for reply
I used those parameters Foxbat25 mentioned. Tried atiflash and modified flashrom.
I am going to try XT PE. Just need to test memory clock with AtiTryTools (1180MHz - looks a bit scary). I have "x800/x850 series" in device manager. In desktop properties, on "adapter" tab (I hope you understand these names, I use polish version of WinXP) I have Radeon x800GTO (0x5D4F). Is it normal?
I have also read here(last post), that latest Catalysts block those pipes?

edit: I've tested RAM up to 600MHz. No artifacts. Flashed to XT PE. Same thing -12p .

Aos_Dana,
do NOT buy an X800/X850 pro just because it could be an X850XTPE in disguise, buy it because thats what you can afford - a good card, and if you can unlock the pipelines its all a bonus, but if you really really need the extra crunch go for the full 850XTPE or even better go for the new 1800/1900 range ot Nvidia 7800 or whatever
I cant believe how badly Elder Scrolls Oblivion runs on my system, grrr, although it is noted to be extremely hungry on machine specs, processor and mobo upgrade for me later on in the year methinks, oh yeah, got me extra 1Gig - now 2 gigs, let the upgrade madness begin
Anyone else getting crap performance on Oblivion? im down to 15 frames a second when running around the Chorrol castle( 1024x768, with most of the settings above medium )

The r481,and the 480 chip is the only one that be flashed (that i know of)with that being the 850pro,850xt and the 850 xtpe and all with VIVO.
so don`t try and flash an 800 with a 850 bios.

I know for a fact that that i didnt have those F's either until i flashed the card, i think i posted earlier in this thread what i had, i think also it NEEDS to be an ATI VIVO card as i read several times elsewhere that PCI ones are problematic!
