Every time I install new/old Detonator drivers for my Asus V7700 GF2 GTS 64Mb, the installation program always asks me for the location of nvagp.inf - I don't have this file with any of the Detonator drivers, on my Win98 CD or residing on any of my hard drives. Is this driver important, and would it explain why my AGP slot is only running at 1x across the bus? Anyone know where I can get hold of a stand alone nvagp.inf driver file from?

BTW, v12.41 Detonator causes my system to hang, crash or just blue screen when running games like Q3A, Project IGI, No-One Lives Forever, Unreal Tournament etc. Yet another example of a cr@ppy Detonator release.

Hrmm, your the first to complain of that with 12.41. How did you clean out the old drivers? Personally I'm a fan of Nvcleaner. Run it while in safe mode, and then unzip your new driver of choice. as you go to install the cards drivers and it asked for the inf file go to the directory you unzipped the drivers to. (I usually make a new dir and delete it after the process is complete) It should all come together for you from there. Feel free to email me or post back if you still have problems.

BTW, your agp 1x is in your bios, try setting it to 2x and do the driver thing.

Cleaned out the old drivers exactly as detailed on these here pages. Made sure they were all removed then installed v12.41. I also directed the search for nvagp.inf to the directory I unzipped the driver files to, but it couldn't find it, and I couldn't see nvagp.inf either. I've got the folder preferences to view all files (including hidden ones).

The AGP bus settings aren't in my BIOS - I've checked. Between my post and your reply, I managed to find a utility called GeTune which allowed me to set my AGP bus at 2x. I recommend it highly.

Still can't find nvagp.inf though

I'm now having this same "nvagp.inf" problem as well. I have an Asus V7700 GF2 Ultra 64 MB, and I have tried numerous drivers in the past without any problem. My most recent try was with the Asus official 11.01c driver and I get this message. The program wants Win CD but then it doesn't locate the needed file. I have to reboot in Safe Mode to load the driver I then want, adding some extra re-boot steps. I tried the Nvidia 12.41 prior to this appearing; could be cause and effect?? I am presently using Nvidia 6.67.

When intstalling the new drivers, direct the "New Driver Wizard" to look in the directory where you unzipped them.
What you all are descibing happens to me too and this is all I do to get it to install.

Yeah, I direct the Driver wizard to the directory where I unzipped the files (generally C:\Windows\Desktop\Nvidia) and it still tells me it can't find nvagp.inf. It then asks for the Win98 CD and can't find the file. I have to tell the wizard to skip nvagp.inf to actually get the drivers to install. Might try a complete rebuild of my system and try a full reinstall of drivers, DirectX etc. Any more ideas?

Sorry Dobs, already way ahead of you there. I click on 'Show All Hardware', click on 'Have Disk' and ........
One thing I haven't actually done is unzip the archive and physically look for nvagp.inf. Hmm, something to do rather than work I guess

Nope, according to the 6.50 .zip file, nvagp.inf doesn't exist. There's a reference to it in the nvgwml.inf file, but there's no nvagp.inf file in the .zip archive. WTF is going on here? And do I really need nvagp.inf?

Hang on, 10.80 has the nvagp.inf file I need. OK, I'll try installing the 6.50s again and refer the driver wizard to nvagp.inf when it wants it.

I had the same problem when installing the 6.50 driver recently except it couldn't find nvagp.inf or nvfsvm.exe either
I chose skip file and everything seemed to work fine, but I would like to know what happened to these files.

While changing between various NVIDIA drivers, I get notice about inability to find: nvdmcpl.dll (found in win/sys), elsagfx.dll (win/sys), nvagp.inf (win/inf), nvdesk32.dll (win/sys), elsagda(2, r, v).vxd (win/sys), elsagdd.drv, elsagd(m, o, s, u, x, a).dll, viagart.vxd (win/sys, for some reason this file causes fatal errors, and the blue screen and elimination of the previous game.)
? Aren't some of the Det3 drivers susposed to only be used with DX8, and NOT DX7a ?

Also there is a request to find on the OS instal disk for: ksclocka.ax (win/sys), mspclock.sys (win/cab).

Just d/l the NVcleaner, soon to try it.

btw, there seem to be alot of 'Inactive Dispaly and Sound Entries in Registry' the "easy cleaner" registry cleaner ignores. ? What is the proceedure to remove inactive entries in registry... through run/regedit ? there are 2 and 3 of the same drivers listed there. Perhaps those are the cause of my inability to play game(s.)

Right - grabbed nvagp.inf from the 10.80 Dets .zip file, directed the wizard to it during a reinstall of 6.50 and everything went smoothly. Running 3DMark 2000 after install gave me a 300 mark increase compared to a previous benchmark without nvagp.inf. After reinstalling and running GeTune and GeForce Tweak Utility, I got another 100 points. So nvagp.inf *is* important.

One problem is that having installed nvagp.inf from the 10.80 pack, I get some instability on some 3D games (dumping to the desktop mainly, or hanging). The 10.80 and 12.41 drivers hate my system for some reason.

well yea, your mixing drivers. thats why you have to get the old stuff out. Here is what is going on. Your drivers wont update cuz they aren't whql (microsoft certified) If you select the advanced tab while installing it will give you the option to install them anyway. Try it, you will see.

I have noticed the same behavior with various Detonator versions. In my experience, nvago.inf is located in the \Windows\inf\ folder - although I have not used nvclean, using the typcial method of uninstalling/installing detonator drivers should not delete the inf file. The problem seems to be that when you try to use the "browse" feature in the installers advanced setup, the \windows\inf\ folder is not inlcuded when you try to point the installer to this directory!

The work around that I have found requires you to open a separate Windows Explorer window and navigate to the \Windows\inf\ folder. Highlight the path int he address bar of explorer and then copy and paste it into the address bar in the installer browse window. Click okay and you should be on your way.
I HAVE SOME ANSWERS!!!

Ok, to understand what happend to me you need to hear my story.

1st here is some of my info:

PC 733
128MB PC133
Hercules 3D Prophet II MX, 32MB
Soundblaster live!
Win98 4.2 (Build 2222)

Now my storey...

I just got "Shogun:Total War Warlord Edition". After installing that and DirectX 8.0a, which came with it. I did all my rebooting and tried to run. The logo came up then went away nothing. I CTRL+ALT+DEL not even running somewhere in the background. I read the booklet, it told me to "run" "Dxdiag" and then click the dispay tab, then under the driver section and next to "Certified"...the book said if my computer said "Certified:Yes" it was something else, but if it said "Certified:No" then that meant that my current drivers didn't support DirectX 8.0a. Well mine said "No" so I got on the internet and downloaded the 12.41 update.

Well, I loaded this up and guess what...it asked for "nvagp.inf". I looked and looked but I couldn't find it....About that time I was on the internet where at Google.com I typed in the "nvagp.inf" and this was the first page that came up. After reading a few of your posts I got some ideas. I went back and did a search and couldn't even find the "Windows/Inf" file SO....I opened a new window then...View>Folder Options>View(tab)>(select)"Show all Files".

Well after that my "Windows/Inf" file showed up. I had to search around the cut&paste it in a different area because the "Update Driver" window I still had open when searching for that file didn't want to recognize that "all files were showed", so I pasted the file just inside "C:\" and then found it with my "Update Driver" window.

After that I had to do roughly the same thing with the file "nvarch16.dll".

Well anyway thats pretty much it. After that the driver loaded up the rest of the way fine. So I hope that helps everyone.

P.S.

Unfortunatly, this didn't help...the game did the same thing it did before. I ran "dxdiag" again and it told that I was still "Certified:No", the only thing I noticed that changed was that my "Version #" was higher.

Oh well Im going to fiddle with a little more tomorrow. If anyone has any ideas please post here.
This problem is very easy to solve. First, make sure you have unpacked ALL files in the detonator release to a folder of your liking.

Right-click on desktop - Properties - Configuration - Advanced - Adaptor - Change - Press Next Button - Show a list... - When windows will show you the selected driver window - MAKE SURE YOU ALWAYS USE THE HAVE DISK OPTION -Even if it's already pointing to the same driver.

That's it. That will solve the missing nvapg.inf error message.

Hope that this helps!
Had a similar problem with an elsa gf2 400/64, various detonators. There wasn't even a nvagp.inf with the elsa CD. In the end I pointed it at nvaml.inf and it seems quite happy with that instead.
