Default Direct X issues - 05-03-2005, 23:47 | posts: n/a

Hello all,
I have searched for a similar thread without success. So...I am having a problem with my son's computer. I have tried to install a few games (IE-young kids type-Tonka) and I get an error on 3D. I ran dxdiag and it shows under "Display" 1-DirectDraw Acclerator, 2-Direct 3D Accelerator and 3-AGP Texture Accelerator are all disabled. I can not figure out how to enable them. I have DL all the drivers again and still no luck. Your help would be appreciated (although not having to play kids games every night is good right now HAHA)

Just to the right of

1 -DirectDraw Acclerator,
2-Direct 3D Accelerator and,
3-AGP Texture Accelerator

there should be the enable buttons. Click them. And just to be sure also test :-

directdraw and direct3d buttons furthur right of your screen

On the button next to directX where it says disable. click that "disable" button and it should change to enable. then go to start menu click run then type in dxdiag.exe and it will tell you at the bottom if your directX is working properly.

did you install the drivers you downloaded?

are they the correct drivers?

have you downloaded and installed chipset drivers so that the agp port drivers are installed

if the agp port isn't installed Display device drivers won't stick

it sounds mostly like the drivers aren't installed as you don't have directdraw as well as not having direct3d

give me a run down, on what kind of motherboard your using

what chipset drivers your running

what os your running

and what video card and drivers

U may need to format.... but more than likely u just need to update chipset and video drivers.

Sounds like you don't have hardware acceleration at full.

"Display properties" > "Settings" > "Advance button" > "Troubleshoot" > "hardware acceleration"

Put "hardware acceleration" (Drag) to full.
Now have a look in the dxdiag.

Adjusts the levels of hardware acceleration controlled by device drivers. Dragging the slider from Full to None gradually disables portions of hardware acceleration and enables you to detect which areas might be causing you to have problems with your graphics hardware.

I would like to thank you all. I guess I should have given more info in that the button showed Not Active instead of Enable. I did try each suggestion and the last one (Animatrix) resolved the issue. Thank you again and my son also thanks you
