Unhappy 5700LE/Overclock/denied - 03-25-2005, 09:19 | posts: 1,119 | Location: Tenneessee

I am new to this forum, and first would like to thank those who help us(newbies) out. Yes, I did search for related topics before submitting this thread, and tried "fixes" first. So, here goes:
I have a Systemax PC:Biostar P4M266A M/B,bus clock@100Mhz, 2.0Ghz Celeron chip, 256MB installed RAM, added 512MB DDR RAM, and running W/XP/SP2, along with nVidia's 5700LE, Direct X-9.
I have ben having stop (blue) screen errors showing my old (nVidia) driver at fault. I searched forums to try to resolve the issue, to no avail. I tried the 71.84 driver earlier today, and then removed it and tried the 66.93 . I am not having errors yet, but time will tell.
I wish to O/C my card, and installed Riva to do so. My stock settings are: (2-D) 225.0 core, and 199.5 mem.
(3-D) 250.0 core, and 400.0 mem
When I try to move them up 2 points, and do internal test, it fails and won't let me save. Am I not enabling something first to be able to reset the speeds? ( Newbie)
Thanks for the opportunity to ask those in knowledge, for I know nothing,. . .yet.
If you can stop laughing at my setup long enough to type, thnx.

There's nothing wrong with your setup... a bigger budget will allow you to upgrade to where you want to be, performance-wise, but for now it is better than some machines other members are running!

Here's what I would do in your case:

Download Driver Cleaner and Cool Bits2.

Remove RivaTuner and the nVidia drivers from Add & Remove Proggies.

Reboot into Safe Mode and run Driver Cleaner.

Restart into Normal mode and install the Forceware drivers again.

Slap in Cool Bits, which installs into the Registry and gives you control over your GPU and vRAM speeds from the nVidia CP.

I'm using it to OC the GF's FX5500, and it works just fine!

Good luck.

I tried your directions, Fastvfr, but it still won't let me change the speeds even 1 Mhz, on either the core or mem. I tried each individually.
Even on Colin McRae Rally, I get spuratic freezes during gameplay. There is no way it'll play DOOM, or Painkiller.
Evidently, I have gotten a Bunk card. Guess I'll head on down to the store to find replacement.
Thanks for your time and effort, I'll be back with another choice in cards, and see what I get then.
Thanks to this forum for providing prompt, and knowledgable help.
T.C. and Frag on. . .

If its Failing the Internalclock test then you can disable it in the Rivatuner Power user tab , underoverclocking.

This will allow you to overclock and bypass the test , but remeber its failed the test for a reason.

O.K. DrSin
I had enough with this experiment, I headed to the store now.
Probably 6600, then I'll go from there.
Unless you have better advice for card?

I'm just tired of flying into a corner at 80mph, and screen freeze, then I'm "poof" in the trees.
Not what I expected from the card I paid almost $100 for.

Thanks again fastvfr, and DrSin. You were helpful in your insight, but my card just wouldn't react.
Just got offline with NewEgg, and ordered a Leadtek A6600GT for $187.14 to my door. I'll be up - and - running soon enough.
Glad to be able to access the quality info you guys gave to me.
Rock on!

NP. Glad to help.

That's going to be a great card for your rig...just remember to use Driver Cleaner in Safe Mode again before you reinstall the new GeForce card.

Then putCoolBits in again and have yourself some fun!!
