Im using det 4.: 21.83 latest from nvidia site. with g force 2 mx in win 2000 for working in Maya 4. Just today, i got riva tuner and I wonder how can I use softquadro to make my MX into quadro MX and will it work with 21.83 because there are only options for 21.81 and 21.85.

yes, it will work with all the detonator 4 drivers, as they are all similar to one another.

to patch the drivers, unzip the drivers setup file into a directory (it is a self executing archive, which you can unzip with any arching software such as winzip and winrar). When you've done that, open RivaTuner and go to the Power User tab in the main interface and hold the mouse cursor over the buttons on the bottom until you find the button that says "Open script" or something similar to it. Click it, and go into the SoftQuadro scripts folder where you have your RivaTuner unzipped.
First script you want to open is the Windows 2000 script and browse to the directory where you unzipped your drivers and it will automatically locate the file for you. Then, double click it and click Patch. When it's done, you will get a message in the bottom of the window telling you that the patching completed successfully. Close that window and then click the "Open Script" button again and this time go to the same folder where you found the Windows 2000 script but choose the Windows 2000 Antiprotection script and apply it to another file located in your extracted driver folder (It will identify this file for you). Exit out of window and close RivaTuner.
Install patched drivers and make sure you choose GeForce 2 MX/400 from the list, not quadro 2 mxr.

(This is assuming you don't know how to install drivers LOL)...:

Open display properties and go tothe settings tab and click the "Advanced" button. Click the "Adapter" tab and click on install driver to install the new driver for your video card. When it comes up to the screen of installation, choose "I will install from a specific location" and then click "Have Disk" in the next window and browse to the directory where you have the patched drivers and click OK. Choose "GeForce 2 MX/400" from the list (not Quadro 2 MXR) and click next. Windows will ask you if you want to install unsigned drivers, click Accept or wahtever it says and just proceed with the installation. Reboot and there you go.

Open RivaTuner again and go to the OpenGL customizations menu and make sure you have all that good stuff for the Quadro 2 MXR enabled. I run Maya with my Geforce 2 MX 400 and it's very nice and speedy.

One word of advice however, do not enable overlays as it will make Maya run 4x slower. (In my experience however. I am running Maya 4)

One more thing, you should definitely check out this excellent article written by Alex (aka Unwinder) and it's over SoftQuadro's history etc... very very good. http://www.nvworld.ru/docs/sqe.html

EDIT:

I'm running Windows XP and my computer will always freeze in Maya and most other open gl apps when using the Detonator 4 drivers. It will keep going in infinite draw loops and it will not respond and freeze.
If you experience any such problems, I would suggest you patch teh 12.90 or the 14.41 drivers and use those instead of teh 2x.xx Detonator 4 drivers. They are horrendous and countless users have been complaining about these drivers. (Of course, many others have them working flawlessly)

UPDATE
Ok Alex let me test out some new scripts for the Detonator 4 drivers and I am no longer have ANY problems with Maya freezing and crashing the computer. These will be implemented in the news version of RivaTuner Release Candidate 8.1 coming real soon.

This message was edited by efishta on 29 Nov 2001 04:49 PM
