Detonator version 2.xx has the anti-aliasing option for D3D in the drivers for TNT\TNT2 from version 3.xx and up it's gone, why?

The so-called antialiasing option from 2.xx is very deceiving, as no game works w. it.
In theory the antialias of 2.xx must be supported by the game itself, contrary to the antialias of 5.xx-11.xx which works theoretically in all 3d games.
Only 3-4 games, all old, supported this, Expendable and Drakan are the ones that come in my mind fastest.
But the antialias option doesn't work. To my knowledge only the antialias option of 1.20 works. I tried these but they have crappy performance.
As a side note 1.20 enabled hardware curves, another option present in 2.xx but again disabled.
I.m not even sure if stretching bitmaps is enabled in 2.xx, it was in 1.xx but i didn't notice it in 2.xx, although i remember reading once a post where someone claimed that it was enabled.

I use 6.50 with my TN2. Tried all sets. The 6.50 have the greatest OpenGL performance of all sets, but -5% compared to 2.xx in D3D. I can leave with that loss, considering that i couldn't play at all Deathtrap Dungeon, StarTrek Armada, StarTrek:BOTF, and got serious problems w. Diablo2 and many more. In Unreal in 32bit 2.xx are BAD.
The only game that doesn't work w. 6.50 is Shogun:TotalWar, i tried it w. 10.80 but i didn't like it.
I have set up the comp (home) to Always On, and disabled Screensaver and monitor powersaving from Windows Control Panel.
Screensavers are "desuete", obsolete in english, in our age, i.m not enter history now, no time , and i shut down the comp when not using it. + monitor shotdown/restart not healthy for its tube.

6.50+UT = no problem here. I am right to assume you have power savings enabled? Disable them and it will be to your own good

Forgot to say: Any 6.xx after 6.34 should do the trick in general terms. Always is better to use official drivers if you have a older card, eg TNTx, then the latest leaked drivers as these are tuned for lastest siblings(GF3, then 2, then 1 and no TNT).(if you remember the first official 6.1xx, the 6.18 are crap for TNT2, 6.31 ARE 90% of 6.50 and 6.50 are best for TNT2.
Many people mistaken the 6.xx for 6.18 or 6.31 when comparing to 5.xx and that's why many believe that 5.xx are better, when they're not.
I tested 6.4x versus 6.50 only on 3dmark, and basically not any difference(actually +0.2% for 6.50) but only 6.50 with extended games(unreal, mdk2, and like 20 others)

This message was edited by Kakaru2 on 08 Apr 2001 06:28 PM
