Do you have the rest of the scores?

And what do you think the odds are of an AGP 6600GT working as Such?

hmm i guess my questions was pharsed wrong.

I thought your 6600GT was a PCI-E... Is it not? If it is do you think the 6600GT AGP(HSI only) will work as such.

yes, this was also discussed already: it would also work if you set "enable professional capabilities", although it will show up as 6600GT- maxtreme would install

AMD doesn't have a memory problem like Intel does. It has nothing to do with the Memory speed(unless you are talking about the GPU then maybe).

That 2.71GHz on the CPU is crazy.. What cooling you got there. CPU makes a huge difference the SpecView.

I think i might be buying me a 6600GT AGP now

it's just watercooling for the CPU here, it runs just 1.5V @ this speed! It can do much more, i'm sure- but HTT/DDR=300 is all my mainboard/memory can run stable...I'm happy anyway.

3dsmax-03 score @ CPU=1.8Ghz is 26.53. That's much slower of course- but still better than a real FX540 : and the card ist still not overclocked, coz i first need to do some improvements on the card's cooling

Is it custom water cooling or did you buy it?

Hi,
As I'm considering a new gfx card I just would like to know if already someone of you checked out maya with a softquadroed 6600GT AGP?
Is the mod as maya-compatible as with a 6800(GT). I'm concerned about display-errors , hypershade slow-downs and so on. I wouldn't need such an highend (highpriced) card like an 6800, so it would be really nice to know / get feedback about the 6600GT/ Maya combination.
thx to all of you

you can judge from my maya score in specviewperf i think. Compare it to those fro modded 6800GT cards...

Yes the Benchmark Performance is more than great, i was just wondering if there's somebody who's already using a 6600GT iwith maya and could tell from a real-world test if everything is working like he expected it to, or if there are some problems, or limitations which driver to use and so on.

This no offend Bluefirexp, I'm very thankful to Unwinder and all of you figuring out this mods and testing, i was just hoping I could get the confirmation of somebody who's modded his 6600GT AGP and says: Yes I'm using it with maya and everything is working fine. I'm using model xy.

If there's someone who's already done it, please join in and add your comment. thx a lot to all of you.

rest of the scores:

ugs-04 Weighted Geometric Mean = 24.19

well, not as good as 6800>FX mods, but fully sufficient for my needs

I'm still keen to see SpecAPC results from Maya before and after Quad-mod.... but if no-one has time, that'd be fair as well - it does take quite a long time to run.

Default MAYA CRASHES WITH 6600GT - 04-21-2005, 13:01 | posts: n/a

Hi everyone

I am sorry as mine is a little different post in comparison to the above discussions but I ever since i have installed an XFX 6600GT AGP. I havent been able to open any files in Maya! Maya just hangs and so does the machine and the deadly blue screen appears and comp. restarts displaying a "system recovery from a serious fault" error upon restart!?

I have driven myself mad trying to figure out why this happens! I run this on a Dell Precision Workstation 620 (Dual Xeon 1Ghz processors, 1gig Ram, 2 scsi harddrives and removing all pci cards other than 1 PCI wireless adapter for broadband. I have a 420watts PSU)

All other apps work fine, even 3DS MAX works fine, new games do have problems but thats a different issue. I have tried many different drivers but to no avail...

I guess you reinstalled Maya? It doesn´t sound too much of a graphics problem than either some file corruption or whatever, I suggest that installing Maya again or use the repair otpion in the installer should get rid of it.

regards

Question To : bluefireXP - 04-24-2005, 03:25 | posts: 13

Is your core BRO2 (with PCI-E --> AGP brigde)?

Mine's it is a BRO2 and I did Quadro FX540 and enabled pro features, the test were better (not as yours - I think 3dsmax was around 17-20, maybe lower, I don't remember). But Maya hanged randomly, though it seemed to work better (especially when enabling overlay support)

Same results with Quadro FX3400. The driver was 71.20, 71.80 and 75.90(beta).

I got me a second A2-stepping 6600GT card: is there already a way, to run Quadro SLI mode with nvstrap? Or do i need to flash one of the cards with a Quadro bios? Anyone who tried something similar?

AFAIK, Quadro SLI is kinda useless for pro apps, so unless you are gaming often it would probably be just a waste of electricity...

I think it's not useless, coz Gelato 2 .0 is coming, which has Amaretto Plugin for 3dsmax. That plugin will use the GPU as a second FPU for final rendering. And coz it's multithreaded: 2 GPUs would make things even faster

AFAIK, the new Gelato's 2.0 multithreading is meant for CPUs only, it cannot use multiGPU systems at all. And if i remember correctly, it doesn't even run properly on SLI systems...
Gelato seems to be just a proof of concept actually, even the old "CPU Only" Entropy renderer was much better than Gelato (it was multithreaded from the begining while Gelato 1.X is singlethreaded) , so i woudn't expect miracles if i were you. Larry (Gritz) is a great guy, but i really think that Gelato is a huge underachiever currently...

Gelato 2.0 will be out in January- so wow, where do you have your information from? Maybe you are beta tester? Would be interesting to hear more of your impressions then!
Maybe you meant v.1.2? It's not for 3dsmax: a version of the Amaretto plugin vor v.1.2 is planned for october or november...Then we could compare the max default "scanline" renderer against Gelato
