Default Sb Live! What version? What specs? - 01-19-2005, 18:00 | posts: 3,376 | Location: Old Europe

Hi all,

2-3 years ago I bought a SB Live! after my mobo-sound fried. Since then I have switched computers but have now reinstalled the old card in my PC. Now I am wondering, which card do I have?

According to another thread, the SB Live 24bit version (the latest/last) doesn't have a midi-port (game-port). Since mine does, it has to be an earlier version. Is there any way how I can accurately determine it?

Device-Manager tells me it is Soundblaster Live! Series, working on EMU10K1 Audio Processor (WDM). When I go into Windows audio-settings, it's named the Soundblaster Live! (C800). The last refers to the E/A address, believe.

What I erally want to know, can I use EAX in any version with this? Does it help me for games? Or should I drop it? Apparently, my onboard sound is not all too shabby??

Thanks guys!
EDIT Could it have been a SB Live Value?? I was looking through the different models and this one sparked something in my memory (brains, not burnt hardware!). Anybody knows, holler!

No..the earlier models only have support for EAX 1.0 or 2.0 I think...The sb lives just hit market so I doubt it is that model...I perfect way to determine the Exact Model is to get the SB# off the card itself then cross index it.. Could be a Value or A DE model..as long as you have 5.1 and a 10K1 processor..then it's a pretty good sound blaster..granted there are new model A2 that totally kill it but it is still good..usually better than most onboards..if not all...

Well as simple as this, if it has 5 stereo type connectors and MIDI port located at the back of the card and FR Driver bay jack built on the card with AUX connection also; then u have SB!Live! 5.1 Edition that supports EAX 1 and 2.......

You want to maximize things with this card, use the KX project drivers ...

So, only EAX 1+2, huh? What version do you need for hardware-EAX in games? EAX 3.0?

Thanks for the kX link, I'll check that out!
