Default SoftQuadro with PCI-E - 12-28-2004, 10:17 | posts: 8 | Location: UK

I'm sorry if this has already been asked but i was wondering whether SoftQuadro can be used with a PCI-Express graphics card, or would it require unlocking pipes etc... If it is possible to do this can anyone recommend a specific PCI-Express graphics card to use with SoftQuadro as i'm yet to purchase one and would like to get one that is likely to work with it, if at all. Thank you very much for your help

Any ideas then ? Will NVstrap work with a PCI-E 6800 GT or Ultra to make it appear and function as a Quadro like a 6800 AGP card ?

I don't know, I've not tested PCI-E boards with RT. Native PCI-E should work, but the boards with HSI PCI-E->AGP or AGP->PCI-E HSI bridge probably won't work, as they use different PCI DevID circuit.

Thank you very much for both of your replies, very informative, and thank you to both of you for all of the work you put into Nvidia card modding and the Rivatuner/Nvstrap app. I think with this 'reassurance' that it is likely to work i'll try and get a native 6800GT PCI-E card to go with my A8N-SLI Athlon 64 setup. Once again thank you very much for your help

I do quite a lot of 3D work and i would appreciate the performance gain i would get from using it as a Quadro card.

I really doubt this performance gain.
quadros run at lower clocks.
do you intend to soft quadro but use it with the original clock?

and despite common thoughts, the Quadro gpu is nv40GL (vs. nv40)
which is different.

There are PCI-E versions of Quadros available, so surely these must be using an updated core also to use the PCI-E interface. Wouldn't a higher clock than a Quadro mean higher perfromance than a regular Quadro considering they use a similar core to 6800GT/Ultra with no enhancements afaik ?

yes , higher clock means higher perfromance in this case .

ofcourse it does, but how can you assume "considering they use a similar core to 6800GT/Ultra with no enhancements afaik ?"

quadro does cost twice the price you know...

Interesting this!

I just checked the link Rui provided. However my Japanese is worse than my Finnish so I wasn't able to make out much of what'd been written in that thread. I did notice thou somebody mentioning A8N-SLI.

Does RT work on SLI boards too?

I assume that it would be a bit much to ask if RT would work in SLI mode too (could somebody check that for us, please) but having a go even with a single card would be great. Perspective of skipping AGP is just all too sweet.

Then I was also wondering if Quadro 3400/4400 cards are performance vies equivalent to Quadro 4000 ones or are there any drawbacks from nvidia using that HIS.

And the last question. Has there been any attempt of modding a 6800 PCI-E into a Quadro PCI-E that you folks know of? Like that “little” thing Rui did when he turned his 6800 GT into Quadro 4000.

Cheers,

/q

It works on SLI boards- but only the primary VGA. So "softquadro SLI " is not working, of course

Price isn't 'always' everything, the results of softquadros' speak for themselves. Most of the cost of the Quadro is support, professional support.
