Currently i have the Live! Value card with the 5th jack (digital out) so i presumed this is the jack i use? Or am i totally lost already?

I'm not too clued on digital outs and stuff with sound cards and even moreso when trying to record digitally on the MD.

I have the Sony MZ-R90 md, and it came with some sort of optical/digital cable which uses that normal type of (is it 3.5mm?)jack on both ends... so i stuck that into the MD and pressed record jus for testing, and it displays Digital Recording/Signal... then it says no signal (obviously), i just did this to test if the cable is a normal analog or digital (ok, well, it was a lot thinner than your typical analog, so i guess it has to be digital or sum sort) so i stick it into the Live's 'digital out' hole, try recording.... No Signal... go to Surround Mixer and tick digital output only, still no signal... (

Ok, so can this Live! Value card record digitally to MD's or not?
I've ordered the original Live! card with the extra I/O board... can that? (no, i didn't order it so maybe i could just record to MD's...)

If anyone could give me some hints/directions i'd be very grateful, thanks for reading.

I can barely remember, but I think the cable for the MD is optical. If you have the optional Live! connector daughter card thingy, then it should have an optical digital port. That's the one you need. I hope that's right.... You might also have to set the Live! for the correct sample-rate (44.1KHz or 48KHz?) for output.
