sorry for my poor English. But Mr. Choon-Man, Lee Succeeded only BIOS modding(Downclocking BIOS - 350/1000->300/650) and nvflashed modded DELL BIOS, pixel and vertex pipeline increased to 8/4->12/5.

link is http://www.parkoz.com/zboard/view.ph...=endpage&#cbot
(Korean OC community, PARKOZ Hardware)
as you see, openGL panel enabled, and UGS-03 score is amazing 52.93!!!

no need hard-modding?

sorry for my poor English again

Can't read Korean but can anyone else verify this?

The remaining pipelines can also be unlocked with Rivatuner of course...

Ok, this is my first post here after reading this forum for several years. Thanks to Unwinder for his cool rivatuner tool and the others I learned from. :-)

I can confirm the 6800NU->FX4000 BIOS mod posted at the Korean page. It is a Leadtek WinFast A400 TDH (GF6800, 128MB) I flashed with the Dell BIOS. The results I got from Specview 8.01 is more that of an FX3400 - what is no surprise to me since I have only a standard 6800.

Here are my Specview 8.0 results before the mod (ok, I forgot to turn VSync Off, but all vertex & pixel pipelines unlocked, thanks again, Unwinder!):

Here are the results of my modded GF6800->QuadroFX4000 in Specviewperf 7.1.1. I didn't run the tests with my unmodded GF6800, because I have go all the way back which doesn't make much sense to me.

All benchmarking was done with Forceware 67.20 w/ VSync Off. My modded GF6800->QuadroFX4000 is running at standard GF6800 speed, core 325MHz/ memory 350MHz(DDR700MHz). I re-programmed the Dell BIOS to the standard GF6800 speed, else I would fry my GF6800.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
WARNING!!!
I suggest that you run your modded NV40 at the standard speed of your 6800LE/NU/GT/Ultra whatever was meant to run. Thus, use the BIOS tweak tool "OmniExtremeEditorFX" posted at that Korean site to re-programm the core/memory frequency of the DELL Quadro FX4000 BIOS. I have both 2D/3D performance set to the same level(GF6800, 325/350MHz).
I am not responsible for any damages you made to your card!!!
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

All pixel and vertex pipelines are unlocked w/ rivatuner after the BIOS mod. One thing I run into is that I have to leave the checkbox "Allow enabling hardware masked units" unchecked at the "NVStrap driver" tab. Otherwise, I don't get the Quadro feature panel opened in the Forceware driver - the OpenGL settings, you know.

Just wondering did you have your OpenGL acceleration set to a certain app when you did that benchmark?

Hi, Lord Banshee,

yes, I set the OGL optimization to "3ds max", but I also tried without any optimization and the results are almost the same. I think it is not required to set it to a specific one if you are not running that CAD/3D application. Once I set it 3ds max, but ran the UGS benchmark in specview 8.0.1 and got a similar result.

But you may noticed that the UGS value is much higher after the BIOS mod. MAXtreme driver for Quadro boards also installed correctly. So, I think the mod is successful.

Hope this helps.

Hi, Leor,

I don't have Maya right here. Maybe, I can benchmark SPECapc for Maya at my work place when I find some free time. But I cannot promise anything yet(remove card here, install card at work if sys admin let me ;-) ). But you can see that the maya-01 benchmark in Specviewperf 8.0.1 is, indeed, faster than before the mod.

Yes i agree the mod is succesfull. I was wondering about the CAD Setting, because my FireGLX2 at work, when i set it to different setting i get big differences in app accerleration.

I am debateing if i should upgrade my video card now

rui0317's ModFX4000 can get good improvment on Specviewperf8.0.1 maya-01 test, but not the SPECapc for Maya test. So I really want to know your result.
Please set the OGL optimization to Maya and run the SPECapc for Maya test. Thank you!

Hi, Leor,

here are the SPECapc for Maya 5 results. I ran the benchmark in Maya 6.0.1 on my machine with OpenGL optimization set to "Maya". This was easier than convincing the sys admin at work .

The final score of my modded board is very near those of the real Quadro workstations at http://www.spec.org/gpc/apc.data/apc...0_summary.html
Considering that I didn't overclock my modded GF6800 with 128MB my result isn't so bad at all .

What I dont see from post is:

- do you still need nvstrap loaded and set as Quadro 4000?

If that so, than bios mod only won't work under linux.

Hi, sponka,

No, I don't need rivatuner w/ NVStrap installed at all to have the Quadro specififc features in the Forceware drivers. MAXtreme and Gelato(GPU supported renderer for Maya) work well, too.
I installed it, because my GF6800 has hardware masked pixel & vertex pipelines(all 100% ok) which I wanted to have enabled.

But what seems odd to me is that I must uncheck "Allow enabling hardware masked units". Otherwise, I don't have the Quadro features. NVStrap shows me that i have 16x1 PP & 6 VP.

Hmmm ... Did you patch bios for pixel/vertex config, too?

There is script in RT -- "NV40BIOSSwUnitsMaskElimintor", which unmasks stuff on bios level.

Hi, sponka,

I applied the BIOS patch and don't even need NVStrap now. All PP & VP are unlocked at BIOS level, cool!!! Thanks!

Hey sponka,
What program did you use to edit bios for changeing the clockrates.

Since the BIOS flash mod worked perfectly, you can as well unistall RivaTuner altogether, you don't need it anymore...

Hehe ... I still like RT for vsync settings -- the one in drivers tab don't work for me (even with checkmark @enabled are disabled). Also, It's one of the best (if not the best) diagnostic tool. Always tell the truth

Hm, guys- btw, this is the RT forum here!

I still suggest to try with NVSTRAP only, without a bios flash...It should work

If you ppl want to use TV-Out(PAL) with your modded GF6800->Quadro FX4000 you should try some Forceware drivers not exactly certified for Quadro boards. In my case, I switched to 67.02 in order to have a good s-video output on my TV in Dualview mode. I use a scart adapter which converts the s-video-Out signal from my GF6800 to composite-IN of my TV set.

With the certified Quadro drivers(61.77, 67.20 or 70.41) I get some flickering blue interference lines on my PAL TV screen. I didn't try the other drivers. Thus, some driver testing may help. This may pose a problem only to ppl living in countries with PAL standard.
