Angry Apps that don't work with Data Execution Prevention - 09-14-2004, 13:43 | posts: 670 | Location: Essex, UK

I found the thread over at PlanetAMD64 and i thought this would be good to show you guys.

Windows XP Service Pack 2 and Windows XP for AMD64 will come with Data Execution Prevention technology built-in which will prevent some nasty code to run on our computers. More about DEP can be read here. Some apps are not meant to harm you but because of the way they are writen they might not run and you will get an error message about them. So this topic is here to collect those incompatible apps

Well the Ad-aware and Mozilla are not a big problem, since newer versions exists (Ad-aware SE v1.04 and Mozilla 1.7.3).

I have DEP enabled on both my AMD64 systems, have yet to have it flag a program.

As far as i know, you can only get it using SP2 for XP, then it will be enabled by default

In XP SP2 you can set it so the DEP will ignore certain programs that you select, but I tried that during the SP2 RC2. Try it and see if works.
