I read somewhere (probably this site) that the new castle has a better memory controller, or something. I'm not a real genius when it comes to hardware, but the socket 939 newcastle seems to be the way to go right now. I think AMD is going to stick with the socket 939, probably when they start making pci-express express boards - but I have nothing to back that up with.
The cheapest newcastle 939 you'll find is the 3500+ (it's $379.00 at newegg just for the processor).
