Default ati voltage - 08-21-2004, 03:07 | posts: n/a

I know the default voltage for most boards is 1.5. Will upping the voltage to 1.6 or 1.7 help it or hurt it any?
I am running 9800 pro.

NO

it will only help if your running the car din 4x AGP. 8x AGP is 0.8v 4x aGP is 1.5v

if you up the voltage to 1.6 or 1.7 you MIGHT see an increase overclocking, but your not going to see an increase in performance unless you having performance issues., then its possible it might help the card out a little by giving more volts.
but if its already in 8x agp upping the voltage will do nothing.
if you switch to 4x your going to see a small performance decrease. not much and you might not even see it but it will happen.

Upping the voltage too high can hurt your card or lower the life of your card, and it isnt recommended unless you are having problems and you know what you are doing... Its not like overclocking where you can just use a tab to increase speeds, we are talking about how much electricity you want to shoot up your card .

Indeed. It's more of a stabilty option rather than to increase overclockability.
E.g. if you are experiencing BSOD's in AGP8x mode [Not FW, that's a different issue] you can try upping the voltage to 1.6 to see if that solves it [At your own risk of course].
