    Hello everyone!

I will buy a "new" graphics-card but I havent decided which one of these 2 I will get. The options are the MSI Radeon HD 6970 Lightning and the Geforce GTX 470.
I have a Fractal Design Integra 400(w) with 1 6x2-pin connector. I've alot got a 2 molex>6-pin connector from an older graphics card. With the 6970 I will get a 6-pin>8-pin power connector and I wonder if it'll work. I saw on another forum that with a 400w PSU you will barely get away with it on the 6970, but I think my PSU will run the 470 since it needs less power and only 2 6-pin connectors.

I know I can buy newer/better cards but those are the two I'm looking for. I appriciate if someone could give me a good answer on this. :nerd:

550 Watt or greater power supply with one 150W 8-pin PCI Express® power connector and one 75W 6-pin PCI Express® power connector recommended

    470:
    Minimum System Power Requirement (W) 550 W
    Supplementary Power Connectors Two 6-pins

I found a PSU calculator and It says that my system with the 470 draws 372 watts, which I find pretty beliveable. With the 6970 though it says my system draws 420 watts. Both of the tests is 90% cpu and system utilization.

Both cards eat more power than you have available.

The numbers I posted come directly from AMD and NVidia

If you want to believe a calculator over the cards actual manufacturer then go ahead but don't be surprised when your PSU either keeps cutting out or pops

Plus, 372w and 420w is not what you want your system to be pulling from a 400w PSU

a 400w PSU will not give anywhere near that efficiency, also you will not have anything near a 150w or 75w rail for the PCI-e power connector

I have a 75w rail from my Corsair TX950W PSU

It didnt say that it drew that much power, it said that the absolute minimum watt on the PSU should be 420/372w.

Absolute minimum your PSU can provide under full load, your 400w will not give anything like that.

Not sure why you asked the question if you are going to argue it is sufficient anyway

    Check yourself:

Alright I give up, I guess I just love my PSU, have had it for a while now and I'm "afraid" to change it. I'll get a new PSU, as well as a new Graphics-card. Thanks for the help anyway.

Why be afraid? Newer PSUs will have better components and safety features to protect your hardware, also they will be kinder on your electric bill

I'm thinking about getting Cooler Master GX Lite 600W, with 2 8-pin connectors and a little bit of "spare-power". Any ideas?

From a quick look at the specs, that should be fine

What's your budget?, maybe someone could suggest some others

    plz stay away from cm-gx-series.

better with corsair cx or antec hcg or similar.

don´t go too cheap on powersupply-only hardware you can keep for years.
