Had some fun this afternoon retesting my Sapphire R9 390 w/ Backplate, since I've unlocked 75Hz on 1080p on my venerable Dell S2409W monitor using HDMI. In the past, it's been iffy when pushing past 1140 gpu clocks due to glitching, or requiring too much voltage to be stable.

So after much tweaking, I found OC the memory past 1650 is mostly pointless in regards to FPS gains, and so kept them at that, and focused on GPU clocks. I found the sweetspot for performance vs heat/fan noise is 1180 w/ +88mV. I could prolly lower that, but I wanted to actually game for awhile. :) (1200/1650 required +143 mV, and I didn't want to have that much load for little return to be absolutely glitch-free)

Then I spent some time remaking my custom fan profile, so to maximize quietness, yet maintain GPU/VRM to 63C.

This was inspired by replaying Dragon Age: Inquisition, and I didn't like it dipping down to 60 fps too often. With the new OC, she varies between 70-75 fps most of the time, with some dips down to 64 when transitioning to new areas. Gotta love Mantle :)

Just thought I'd share my day's work with everyone. :)

That's a nice overclock for a 390. I have a 290x that doesn't go over 1100 without >+100 mv. Ive tested so many combinations trying to go further but it just doesnt like it.

@Chastity Are you getting GPU memory errors reported in HWINFO64?

Also what are you setting the VDDCI too? I am just curious.

If I go above 1600 on my memory on my R9 390 (powercolor) it will start throwing errors. At 1700 it can throw thousands a second, however I see no artifacts in testing or gaming.

My old card died in January, so the sale on Fury's did not occur yet. It's ok, as this card has served my 1080p needs well. It can hold me over until the next cards come out. (RX490 / Fury2)

    1) No errors reported in HWINFO64
    2) VDDCI is at 1.047V according to GPU-Z
    3) Using TRIXX 3.0 to set my overclocks (v6.1.0) Don't particularly care for Afterburner since it has a +100mV limit. I need over 100 to get to 1200+

Here's a snap of the current profile. I upped the gpu power a tad after a long gaming session to deal with any glitching. (I was playing Mass Effect and had some fog errors. Turned out to be the game on this particular scene, and not the overclocks.) I also upped the memory to 1700, just because, and it's been stable. :)

290/290x/390/390x are strange in OC. Card can throw artifacts or just shutdown at 1100/1400 with any power settings but will work just fine at 1200/1600 50%/100mV. My 290x is unstable at 1170-1220/1600-1640 no mather what i do but will work just fine at 1250/1650-1700 50%-130mV

Thx for the tip! Upped memory to 1750 and I got rid of the occasional glitching. :) Starved memory pipe is bad, mmk?!
