So every now and then I get this weird issue where my wallpaper goes grey and then my nVidia control panel and what not don't appear in my system tray anymore. This has happened before and after a reformat and everytime I install new drivers I do a clean install. Any ideas? Doesn't seem to do it while gaming, just on the Windows desktop. I haven't OC'd it at all and I'm running a Cougar MX-1000 PSU, so I don't think it's not getting enough power.

I don't believe its the card (it does fine in games it seems and during Firestrike tests and what not). Also the windows was an MSDN copy that I got from Microsoft while in college.

Are Windows and DirectX updated? Could be the MSDN copy not allowing updates by MS.
